I know some folks in another thread are joking about Cindy Wilson becoming chairwoman. I don't think that would happen.
However, I do think the OTHER Wilson would make an excellent Chairman during this time.
Regardless of the runoff results, the council is going to be very divided. Ron Wilson has frequently been critical of the Administrator, but also has defended Joey when he knew he was right.
Ron Wilson would be in a unique position to limit the strife on Council because he's got his foot in the door with both factions.
Ron also knows the rules of order and has a commanding presence-- He doesn't bumble around like Waldrep did and he won't say outrageous things like Thompson did.
Depending on the runoffs, he might end up being the compromise candidate for Chairman.

I know some folks in another thread are joking about Cindy Wilson becoming chairwoman. I don't think that would happen.Andrew, just stay in the corner for awhile. For one thing, nobody is joking about Cindy being Chairwoman. For another, Ron will be lucky if the new Council doesn't spend his damn money against his wishes. But he sure won't be chairman. Can you really be this dumb, or are you just humping my leg?

You're right about one thing, though. Ron IS the "other" Wilson now. That tell you anything?
Actually, Fried, I think Andrew might have a point here.
Being CHAIR of Council may be more of a hindrance to Cindy Wilson than a help, since the CHAIR has some limitations on what he or she can say in public. The CHAIR has to mindful of whether he or she is speaking INDIVIDUALLY or for the entire Council. That's sometimes a burden.
Ron Wilson understands Roberts Rules, and he has shown he's capable of working with both sides to get things done.
Let's not be hasty here, okay?
You guys can't be this stupid. Ron Wilson spent a lot of money against Cindy. You can bet it was his money and his people that sent those mail pieces against her, and Bob.
Ain't gonna happen. Trust me. That is a stupid idea. Did SSHM change her name to JD or Ahammett?

I don't think Ron Wilson would be a good chairman because I'm not sure that he can take the heat that will ultimately come with that job. He gets all mad and red-faced at the council meetings and did the same in the debates. If he wants to be chairman, he needs to learn to let some things roll off his back and learn how to participate in a debate without losing his temper.
Not that I know, RedSoxFan. Why do you ask?
He's proven to have political savvy and has a good knowledge of RR. He certainly proved me wrong about going crazy on council, despite his dubious political history. I think he'd make a good chairman.
Exactly where does this high opinion of Ron's knowledge of RROO come from? HE has never raised or explained a single parliamentary issue since joining the council. He, like the others, asks Tom Martin, who always answers whenever Larry Greer lets him.I am also a little confused about the evidence of his ability to work ith both sides? Would that include his change in position from promising to second any motion by any Council member to allow discussion of any issue to his position of refusing, under any circumstances to second any motion Cindy Wilson might make?

I mean the man crawled up Joey Ray's pants leg at the first meeting he was on Council? Where is all this stuff coming from, JD? I'm not saying it isn't there. but I have never seen it. Help me out. Really.

Joey's got to win both of the runoffs to keep his job. Can Joey fight on two fronts successfully? Napolean (RW) got in a tight race with one who should have been an also ran and almost met his Waterloo. Napolean may change his tune now if he hopes to get re-elected next time much less get elected chairman.
Ron Wilson might actually be a good choice for Chairman if he turns face and allies himself against Mr. Preston as he did to win election the first time.
Why do all County Council members have to be against someone or something? Why can't we all just think in terms of what is best for Anderson County?

Peston's departure would be in the best interests of the County.
Petunia, What a great question! I thought the candidates were running for Anderson County Council, not voting on whether they like a person or not...
Also, Freddie, a departure of Mr. Preston would definitely NOT be a good thing for Anderson County and when everyone realizes that......We might become a united county.

Petunia, What a great question! I thought the candidates were running for Anderson County Council, not voting on whether they like a person or not...Unfortunately, at least from your viewpoint, ntheno, many people do not agree. JoeyPreston does not unite people. He polarizes them. His personal and professional style make it clear that he favors those who favor him. That is simply an inappropriate position for a professional administrator to take. It is also clear that there is a major disconnect between the various factions of Anderson County, and much of that disconnect is engendered by both Preston and the policies he has established. And make no mistake, ntheno, despite all the talk about the different roles under home rule, Joey Preston establishes policy in Anderson County. But back to my original point, and I'll move on. He is not the kind of leader that can unite this county. Hopefully someone among those on Council will prove to be that type of leader. We'll have to wait and see.

Notice how "friedbrainmatter" rises to support MCW. There's an example of an "objective journalist." NOT!
