Under 'One New Job A Month' McAbee we have lost hundreds of jobs because of him and the EcoDev dept. that he thinks he owns. The smart executives from outside industries can see right thru that truck driver and his 'all for me' ambition. Billie does not sell Anderson County, he tries to sell himself and his King Joey Ray. That is why we have lost so many jobs.

WE HAVE LOTS TO OFFER IN OUR COUNTY. BILLIE MCABEE AND JOEY PRESTON ARE NOT PART OF IT.

Someone needs to feed this Macaw some alka-seltzer.

Well . . . IF, and that's a pretty big IF, Bubba could write in complete sentences, we might understand what he's talking about. I *think* Bubba is attempting to state that while Bill McAbee has been in office, there has been less than one job per month added to the job rolls here in Anderson.

Well . . . lets begin with facts.

Job Growth & Loss, in Detail.

I found it interesting that Medical and Diagnostic employment in Anderson, SC was up by 206% between 2005 and 2006. Anderson, SC led the nation in job growth in that sector. I also found it interesting that between 2005 and 2006, job creation and job loss traded blows back and forth in Anderson County, resulting in . . . wait for it . . . a nearly even.

Yes folks, your elected officials did their part between 2005 and 2006 to fight the flow of jobs out of the area by creating new jobs in the area.

Still not convinced?

Let's look at direct investments, shall we:

SC Stat Abstract - Announced Capital Investment and Job Creation by County (2007)

2007
Anderson County
452 Jobs
$218,500,000 Invested
7 Firms

2006
Anderson County
132 Jobs
$19,000,000 Invested
5 Firms

2005
Anderson County
760 Jobs
$162,100,000 Invested
9 Firms

2004
Anderson County
720 Jobs
8 Firms
262,000 Invested

Now Bubba, I will freely admit I'm not a math wiz, but let me break it down for you:

Between 2004 and 2007 (we'll leave 2008 out for now), Anderson County CREATED 2,064 NEW JOBS.

I say again . . . 2,064 NEW JOBS CREATED.

So . . . between 2004 and 2007, we have 1464 days. During that time period, the county created 2,064 NEW JOBS. That equates to roughly 1.4 jobs created PER DAY, including Holidays, Weekends, etc, between 2004 and 2007.

Now, if you want me to add in, from 2008, the Big Box Retailer Credit (350 Jobs) or the new balistics company (50ish jobs), the numbers only get bigger.

So Bubba . . . about that job loss . . . ????

In closing Bubba, I leave you with this:

Anderson County is on a downward spiril and it all boils down to Joey Ray and the EcoDev dept. under McAbee. Find the stats that you love, then go out into the county and tell the taxpayers how much better off they are under McAbee. Take a change of clothes because you will be run out of town. The jobs created are the 'you buy mine and I'll buy your' yard sale jobs, not the industry producing jobs that are vital to a growing economy that we need. We all appreciate any new jobs coming to town but the one here, five there wont keep this county above the bankrupt water level.
Win or lose tomorrow, we will not let up on the demands we have had for months: open and transparant government and full documentation of taxdollars Joey and spenders like McAbee are wasting our dollars on. Now, give us some more statistics and tell the working people how good it is under a dictatorship.

Are you clinically stupid or did you just fail to stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?

The sources for the information I provided comes from multiple, verifiable, and CREDIBLE sources. You can click the links and read the material yourself, If you have issues with the data, take it up with both the Federal Government and SC State Government.

It's amazing to learn, from Bubba that . . .

Downward Spiral = Nearly $400 Million Dollars in DIRECT INVESTMENT in Anderson County and 2,064 NEW JOBS.

Well Bubba, could you please enlighten us as to what high standard you subscribe to then? I mean, if the creation of 1.4 JOBS A DAY, 24hrs, 7 Days A Week, 365 Days a Year between 2004 and 2007 is a "downward spiral," please tell us what success in economic development and job creation is.

MAH-FLIPPIN-ROOOOOON!

Alright, now, one of you is describing an apple and the other one is describing an orange. Let's see if we can get on the same page here.

The number of jobs recruited by by Anderson County EcoDevo over the past four years - 2,046 according to SSHM's statistics - is an accurate reflection of that part of the equation. SSHM is absolutely correct.

But it's not the whole picture, in Anderson County, or Pickens County, or any other county. In order to determine if you've gained jobs or lost jobs, you have to look at the TOTAL JOB MARKET IN THE COUNTY.

According to statistics found at http://www/sccounties.org (which I'm assuming come from the S.C. Department of Commerce or the S.C. Association of Counties, whichever one controls the S.C. Office of Research and Statistics, but I'm not sure), the picture is not quite so rosy.

In 1980, Anderson County is shown to have had 51,991 total jobs. Obviously, many County residents had jobs in other counties or out of state, and some of those jobs in Anderson County were taken by people who lived in adjacent counties.

Anyway, from 1980 and 51,991 jobs, the county grew by 1990 to 58,653 jobs and by 2000 to 69,913 jobs.

Ah, but then, something happened. From 2000 to 2006 (the last year I found), the apples-to-apples number, from whatever source it was derived, fell from 69,913 to 65,346 - a loss of more than 4,500 jobs. I know others were lost in 2007, but I don't have those numbers.

Sooooo ... even adding EcoDevo's 2,046 and those high-profile commercial jobs into the mix, the bottom line is ANDERSON COUNTY HAS LOST jobs since 2000. Want another stat? The average unemployment rate in Anderson County from 1997 to 2006 was 5.5%. In 2007, it was 6.1%. Bubba is absolutely correct in his assertion that Anderson County has a NET loss of jobs this decade.

Now, you can argue about jobs creation all you want to. Anderson County EcoDevo is doing its job to the best of their ability in a slow economy. But you can't just pick and choose - point to jobs CREATED without taking a counterbalancing look at jobs LOST - and expect people to buy it hook, line and sinker.

Bottom line: Bubba and SSHM are both right. Bubba and SSHM are both wrong. Bubba and SSHM aren't talking the same language.

I don't think Bubba wants no stinkin' economic development.

Imagine:

First we get a new company to move here. They start hiring people. They pay more than minimum wage. Suddenly, Bubba's work-mates get better jobs.

And Bubba says, "Duh, what happened ? Why can't I make it on tips at this carwash ? Gee, I can't even understand the people who still work here."

Bubba goes home, opens the fridge on his front porch, grabs a Bud, kicks the dawg, and drifts off to sweet dreams, remembering how it used to be.

Bubba just doesn't get it. But he's just a bubba.

Thanks JD. I know what I said to be correct but I don't keep all the actual facts in front of me. I still wish the other side that thinks we have more jobs in our county than we need would hit the streets and talk to the citizens and get the taxpayers opinions. We are overtaxed for the salaries we make. County government is much too large for the population in our county. King Joe has far too much power as a hired hand. County council has given the power to Joey in return for (you name it they got it) deals. We are not getting the major industries like some counties around us are getting. Too many of our elected council members promised one thing and made complete turnarounds when in office. The list goes on and it's hard for the Prestonites to actually deny what I've just said.
And once again, we, the honest side, desperately want to progress in our county. We want new jobs for our children and grandchildren. We want someone in office that will keep infrastructure up front and not let it decay as it has under Joey Ray.
We will decide today.

Since the jobs issue has become so important in several of your County Council races, I thought I'd bump this one back up. So sue me.

And, Bubba, before you thank me, go back and read the post. I said you were right, and I said you were wrong. That's quite an accomplishment, my friend. There's hope for you yet.

While you all seem to have an almanac in which to draw this wealth of stats from, I am curious as to one important thing:
How many of these newly created jobs pays worth a darn? Creating a minimum wage job vs. one of substance is not worth crowing over.

During my past decade in Anderson, the average wage for a job hovers somewheres around $6.50/hour IF you're lucky enough to find any new jobs listed in SCjobbank, AIM ads or word of mouth.
The average wage for a new job in Greenville is $8.00 or more, same "IF's" apply.
This is for your run of the mill low-skill occupations of laborers, entry manufacturing and assembly work. Technical or higher education positions are also limited to Tri-County or Bosch.
The Civil service jobs we longed for in our youth no longer exist, or if they do are for laborers at $14K a year gross( around $6.75 an hour) or County Adminstrators ( Ahhh, had you going for a moment).
Sorry, but I don't even contemplate rolling out of bed for $6.75 an hour gross pay. Those flocking to other counties to earn a decent paycheck also include myself. And my limited excess money usually ends up spent in those other counties for entertainment, fuel or meals out.

And that brings up yet another issue, Wyatt. If you LOSE jobs that pay an average of $10+ an hour and GAIN jobs that pay an average of $8 an hour, it's like trying to run on a treadmill that's going too fast.

Figuring that equation out would take numbers that even Google can't find.

You're correct, It skews the numbers to LOOK like jobs are growing or staying steady. A nice feather in the caps of those touting job growth.
Yet in reality net wages are lower and skilled jobs no longer exist.
