This whole debacle with Cindy Wilson defaming my friend, Brandon has got me thinking...
Didn't she sue the county administrator (and therefore the county) over not receiving information?
Yet the justices clearly stated that she has received ALL the information that she is legally entitled too.
She has plenty of information to do her job. So, why is she always complaining about not having information?
The reason is that she has been looking for (and not found) evidence of malfeasance since she has been on council.
She thought she had something good and juicy, which is why it was on PRINTED campaign literature as well as her website.
That turned out to bite her in the ass...
So, what has been her intention this whole time she was looking for information?
Has it been to do better for her constituents?
I don't think so.
This latest episode just demonstrates (further) that her game is the politics of personal destruction. She's not in it for the good of the county. She's in it to hurt other people.
I guess it's true what they say " A little information in the wrong hands IS dangerous".
Maybe we SHOULD have prevented her from seeing any documents, then she wouldn't have harassed a county employee, resulting in a lawsuit.

Jack,
While what you are saying sounds good, in reality all elected officials should have access to all legally allowed documents in order to serve us better. If we restrict the access to an elected official we don't like then we are restricting access to the officials we do like. Sounds good now but when the shoe is on the other foot it doesn't fit so well.
I like Brandon too, even if he is a Democrat. He is a good man and I hope he wins. Elections may be political but defaming someone just to win an office still requires that one is accountable for their words. Cindy Wilson is still accountable for her words, politics or not. It's a shame to me that such an intelligent woman has waisted her talent and our time on things like this. Sad really.

Shih, I'm being a bit tongue in cheek. My apologies for not making that clear.
I'm all for freedom of information.
"give 'em enough rope..." as they say
I'm merely trying to demonstrate that Cindy's real desire for information is fueled by her desire to tear down the county employees personally. That is unacceptable.
I don't condone withholding information from anyone. We can't control what people do with it, though. Which is why we have to be careful. It could just have easily been Cindy giving out the county credit card number (again).
I believe in the freedom of information.
I also believe that we have it in the county.
That Cindy was given this information demonstrates that point just as well as the supreme court decision.
When will anti-county people give up that charade and focus on real issues?
That's the tragedy in all this. People want to participate in the politics of personal destruction rather than participate in a process to move the county forward.
We may not agree on how best to (or if we should) do that. But THAT should be the discussion. Not whether Cindy got her information (she did, she does, and she will).

She continues to sue and to demand more documents because she does not know what to do with the documents she has.
As for her being sued, time will tell how that turns out. It was politically stupid to use that guys name in any way because people don't have a clue who he is.
Most people don't know the guy and don't really care about this or that. I guess about half of the people who were presented with the information actually read it. That's why I wonder how in the world you get to five milion dollars.
It reminds me of a situation in Richland County. The school transportation director was sued for defamation by a political activist who criticized the bus system. Millons were sued for. Thousands were spent on lawyers. The activist won, and was awarded one dollar. I believe it was Phillips v. Hoose. It did not go past the circuit court level. The two men hated each other, tried to get each other arrested, sued one another, and so forth.
The Lex-Richland 5 board cleaned house shortly thereafter. Neither work in politics or transportation any more from what I know.
