Tax and spend liberal,Tom Allen, voted to raise your taxes 17 times while on the County Board of Education. During his four years he voted to raise your taxes in 5 school districts every year. Those tax increases each year totaled more than the County Budget. Is this really what you want?

Is this really what we want? A representative that voted against district 4 schools. A representative that doesn't even remember his own record? A representative that doesn't even remember who our founding fathers are?

Shih,

Close. Allow me to provide some additional links and material:

Issues on Record (Tax Increases, etc)
Anderson County Board of Education is here. Random Commentary: Is it just me, or does the name "Boardofed" sound like some sort of lonely housewife? If you are looking for proof of Mr. Allen's tax and spend ways, from that website, just click on the minutes and start reading. Try not to fall asleep, as it's really dry stuff.

Except for the parts where the board runs into executive session OVER AND OVER AGAIN (8 time in 2005!!!).

Here's a tidbit from the meeting notes:

Mr. Allen added that another idea was to add a one cent (1¢) sales tax for schools, which would reduce amount requested on the referendum.

Founding Fathers
What Shih is referencing here is Tom Allen's answer to a proposed question at this year's ACRP (Anderson County Republican Party) Debate in which Tom Allen attemped to attribute term limits to our Founding Fathers. Bill McAbee quickly corrected Tom in the follow-up to the question where Bill correctly attributed term limits to the 22nd Amendment (passed in 1947, ratified in 1951).

I'm not sure what is worse: Gross ignorance of our history, especially when the canidate in question is in charge of funding for our children's education OR not understanding "what is in the details" (as he took an oath to uphold the Constitution twice - once as a member of the US Air Force and the second time as a US Army Officer).

Vote for Bill "I passed my Civics Class" McAbee June 10th

Well, Shih (Amy) tried to tellthislie on Rick's show yesterday and got stuffed when Tom allen called in and explained that the majority fo those votes to increase the local contribution to the schools were mandated by state law that says when the stateis unable to meet its pledged level of support, the local school boards must make it up.how? By raising taxes. Allen explained that nicely. I guess Amy had tuned out by then, because surely she wouldn't purposely spread a lie once she knew it was a lie? Would you Amy?

So . . . you just confirmed the FACT that Tom Allen voted to raise taxes. Stan, you know as well as I do, that in tight times, you have to tighten the belt. Maybe even cut some programs to meet state education requirements.

Funding gaps can be closed without having to raise taxes. Allen simply took the easy way out - SEVENTEEN TIMES.

Thanks for confirming this to be a FACT.

Stupid, literacy would hurt less. You can't be stupid enough to have misread what I said, but you are venal and unprincipled enough to misinterpret it in purpose.Which part of unfunded mandate confuses you? Call Larry Greer. He'll exolain it to you. He *censored*es about it all the time and the Council often uses it to defend their tax increases. Ever hear Joey or Michael or Larry or Gina say "vehicle rathcet down"?

Stan,

If you want to debate education, well then, lets get started, shall we?

The school budgets for all five Anderson County School Districts pass through that Board - annually. Tom, and others, could have gone line-by-line and asked "Do we need another school administrator" or "Can we come up with a way to reduce cost within the administration/overhead to deliver more money to each student."

NO.

Those questions were seldom, if ever, asked. Go back and look at the notes, Stan. Rubber-Stamp is the only way to describe what I read. To do the right thing sometimes makes you the unpopular or quite possibly the bad guy. How difficult is it, when in a position of authority, to ask the hard questions?

If Tom rubber-stamped SEVENTEEN tax increases "in the name of the children," what would he do for you and I if on County Council, hmm?

Again, if per pupil spending is too low, you can remove a school administrator or two and use that salary to close the gap to achieve the required state level for spend. YOU DON'T HAVE TO RAISE TAXES.

How many times has Bill McAbee gone over the county proposed budget line by line and deleted or questioned anything? Talking about a rubber stamp.

McAbee, Thompson and Floyd have never met a tax increase that they did not like. "If Mr Preston say it so, it must be so" is their motto.

I am disappointed in ALL of the council people with this new proposed budget. In times like these there needs to be a smaller budget not a bigger one. Mr Preston could win over alot of people if he were to present a smaller budget "for the good of the PEOPLE of the county".

Everyone knows he is a liberal Democrat and I think all of the council people are as well.

Could it be possible that when the budget was written it was already stripped to the bone, so there was nothing to cut?

MerryMac,
But he acts like one. If he is not a liberal democrat he will oppose this budget or at least try to cut it to what last years budget was.

2008 - County Council - Bill reviewed some of the park expenditures and moved to amend the budget to strike a park from the budget on first reading.

McAbee, Thompson and Floyd have never met a tax increase that they did not like. "If Mr Preston say it so, it must be so" is their motto.

Apparently, you were not at CC last night. I was. I witnessed history: ALL SEVEN MEMBERS of CC voting FOR the budget. Better include Waldrep and MC Wilson in that assessment, Homer.

John, I think you snoozed through an econ class somewhere along the line. In a down economy (Bear), it is the GOVERNMENT that should spend while people save. Why: Money goes farther. Capital Projects, in theory, are cheaper. In an up economy (Bull), Government should save while the private sector invests and spends.

Take a few econ classes . . . we are doing the right thing at the right time.

Show down, SSHM. I slept through about half my classes in Econ 201 at Clemson too.

Did you just say government should INCREASE SPENDING in a down economy and DECREASE spending in an up economy? (Reading back ... yep, that's what you said.)

Soooo ... if the government is going to SPEND more in a down economy .... hmmmm ... existing tax revenues in a down economy will also be down, which means existing tax rates will not generate sufficient revenue to SPEND our way out of a recession, which means .... ... are you suggesting that government should RAISE TAXES DURING A RECESSION?

Good God, SSHM! I think I just heard Ronald Reagan screaming!

I didn't say raise taxes - anywhere. You re-allocate your current spending priorities to match market conditions that favor one practice or another. It's like moving a sailboat across the water - you'll get to your destination, just not always in a straight line.

Tom Allen is 10 times the man that Billie McAbee is. If Tom said he will raise our taxes the first of every month while he is on council, I would still vote for him. And end up saving money in the long run compared to what the liberal demoncrat McAbee is costing the taxpayers. Allen is a gentleman and would never talk to anyone on council in the manner that Billie has talked to Cindy and Bob. Tom Allen will never try to personally benefit from his position on council.

First of all my name is not Homer.

Second if you can read, I said I was dissapointed in ALL of the councilpeople for allowing this bloated budget to pass. At least the others that I did not mention have in past years voted against or asked Mr Preston to re-do part of the budget.

Third, I have a Masters Degree from the same school Mr McAbee does(Go Dawgs). I did not sleep through Economics and have taken enough classes. (even though it was along time ago).

Fourth, We were in a BULL economy for almost a Decade and where did Anderson County cut back and save? They spent and spent because we were having GOOD economic times.

The thing that most of the "professional or wannabe professional politicians" forget is that government is still about the people. When the people in Anderson COunty are making less money (therefore spending less) then the politicians should understand that and try to cut back and yes "decrease" the budget. If for no other reason than to pretend that they care.
