so, if you vote for Hooper, and he wins, who will ask the questions? No one. That's it. Cindy needs to have 2 more years with someone that will work with her. I think if McAbee and Thompson get beat, she will have the chance to make a change.

But to vote for Hooper is to vote many steps backwards. This guy will not represent the district very well. I live in district 4, and will vote for Tom Allen.

- willieh

This is why, willieh (whoever you are today), you will never work for a political think tank (aka a policy institute). If you can't see what you do politically by electing MacKay and Hooper, there is no hope for you. All you and others of your ilk like to do is fight fights that result, at best, in pyrrhic victories.

Think outside the box and see what it will do. I've hinted at it several times, but I suppose it's impossible to teach someone about Epaulette Mate if all you know how to do is to play checkers . . . poorly.

I suspect the brighter posters here will figure out what I'm saying (PN, GeorgeP - let's see if you catch what I'm getting at).

SSHM made a brilliant remark...."think outside the box." WoW, I've only heard that one about 9 gigalons times. What can it possible mean? Someone?
WillieH....don't let the Prestonites upset you. They are on Joey Ray's payroll, one way or the other.
Me and my boys will do as we always have, vote in every district to make sure our votes get counted.

Sorry I didn't get back to you after you addressed me.

You are absolutely right. Cindy Wilson has done NOTHING !

What has she done FOR the county ?

Sure, you think all of her witch hunts have been great fun ! But they have done nothing to move the county ahead. All she has done is to try to get revenge against Joey because SHE LOST in her suits against the county.

And that means that we lost ! It cost us (me and you) tons of big bucks. And we have gotten NOTHING for it !

It's time to get rid of her . Vote for DOUG HOOPER !

- Buster

I understand that is your view. that is the view of someone who cannot see how much more harm the county might haver suffered without at least one watch dog in the yard, paying attention. Also, the county budget has gone up by close to sixty million dollars since Cindy wilson was elected. If I had spent that kind of money and had failed to get anything done, number one, I'd resign and number two, I damn sure wouldn't blame one single Council member when I had had control of the Council the whole time. IOf that kind of money got pissed away, it wasn't one member of council who did it, Buster.

And the only reasons they keep giving is that we didn't do anything useful with last year's $125,000,000 cause Cindy asked questions about it and kept all the employees in all the offices busy running off copies of stuff for her. If she wouldn't ask Joey Ray questions he could think better about what to do with the $125,000,000 that his Gang presented to him. If you don't believe this just ask some of Joey's lawyers. They are easy to find no matter what town in SC you are in.

Bubba, I appreciate your concern, but RepublikinConstituentAmy (CRAPAMY for short) is as right about this as she is anything else. Two years behind the times and losing ground. She and Hankey and Shih head for that matter never change their tune and never update their research. That's what ignorant people do.

- friedgreenmater

...and Stanley certainly knows about ignorance - he sees it everytime he shaves. Stanley, are you now saying that YOUR Mother threw you out too? That seems to be a pattern for you, isn't it. Donb't worry too much about where I live, I haven't lived with my Mom since I was 18 - but she'd take me back tomorrow. How about you Bubba/StanleyMatter?

I have no problem with a true watchdog. In fact, if that's what Cindy is trying to be, she's doing a very poor job of it.

She has alienated the rest of the council (except poor old Bob). Not many people are still on her side. She can't possibly get anything done without the help of the others. But Cindy doesn't play well with others.

A watchdog is good, when it growls. But when it bites it loses the support of everyone, on both sides (again, except poor old Bob).

Nobody ever answered Buffy's simple question "What has Cindy Wilson done for economic development?". It's like those dreaded essay questions from school - you don't know the answer so you just BS hoping to get some partial credit. Well three pages of mudslinging about everything else under the sun doesn't merit any points in my book. It just underscores the fact that you can't answer the question "What has Cindy Wilson done for economic development?" Cindy (aka the watchdog) is the number one waste of money in County government today. Legitimate credit card expenditures and budgeted travel pale in comparison to the cost of feeding this bulldog. Face the reality Cindy lovers. Your watchdog on top of the supper table. She needs to turned out now.

Buster, Cindy and Bob have not alienated themselves from the gang of 5. It is just the opposite that has happened since it takes 5 council members to constantly defend their king, Joey Ray Preston. Plus, you can add in a number of attorneys and some office heads that surround Joey Ray. Can you imagine how Anderson County would be progressing if we had a hired administrator that answered to our elected officials.
What's wrong with my name? My twin boys, Argus and Angus still get upset that I did not name them Bubba, Jr.

Are you really so obtuse that you don't understand that the business development climate, and the support of aggressive business development by local elected officials, was one of the primary factors considered by the executives who decided to close that particular Winn Dixie store?

If so, let me know, and I'll 'splain it to ya.

It was called Bankruptcy and Reorganization.

From the horses mouth, not Mayberry, NC

In fact, if you follow the links off the page I just linked above, you will see where the Carolinas do not fit into the business model that is Winn-Dixie.

And 'splain to us, o wise one, why this particular store was deemed one of the stores not fitting the new "model".

I'll help you. It was in a DYING geography, that was being strangled by petty politics and grandstanding, led by C Wilson and your ilk.

What's really amazing to me is that the people in CW's district don't look around the radius of Greenville and see what amazingly wonderful things have happened nearly everywhere else while she's been in office, and ask, "Why not here?". If they ever decide to, the answer is two simple words: Cindy Wilson.

I see what you are saying, but, it's not accurate.

Every Winn-Dixie store in SC has closed it doors. Kroger Sav-On also had a draw-down in the number of stores opened in the Southeast. Competition from Publix, Wal-Mart Supercenters, and higher-end grocery stores (World Market, The Fresh Market), along with other contributing factors lead to the decline of certain grocery store chains here in South Carolina.

Remember Harris Teeter?

Now, if you are attempting to point out the fact that actions taken by Cindy have painted Anderson County in a negative light, hampered economic growth, and is on the cusp of reversing growth specifically her district, then I can go along with that.

Chiquola Mills is a prime example of "we knew it was coming, yet we did nothing." Where was the partnering with tech schools to provide the former workforce at CM the skills to be successful in other jobs? Where was the planning and recruitment to land other businesses in the area to off-set the loss of CM? Certainly someone as accomplished in real estate as M. Cindy Wilson could have EASILY sold other businesses on the merits of land and infrastructure in her district, ergo, recruitment.

NONE OF THAT HAPPENED.

Now Cindy could plead ignorance to this. In other words, the county failed her - did not provide adequate information about industry and the health of industry in her district. That lack of information would fall at the feet of Economic Development. County Economic Development has two missions: One - Recruit New Business and Two - RETAIN EXISTING BUSINESS.

So who is to blame?

Either way, it paints a very bleak picture. Worst case, both parties are at fault (e.g., Econ Dev failed to properly partner/check on the health of CM/have a plan of action AND MCW failed to care and/or work with County Econ Dev).

Change, IMO, needs to come from TWO directions, not just one.
