Economic Development is vital to the future of our county. Actions speak louder than words. As a matter of fact, actions are the only speech I listen to anymore. Words are cheap- sentiments are even cheaper. Show me the jobs, show me the money and show me the votes that backup what you claim.
Ms. Wilson can show none of these things.
If you are looking for evidence to convict her of supporting economic development, she slips off that hook easily - NADA vote!
Check out the latest mailer a friend passed on to me from the Voters for Accountability in Government! It does speak volumes. After all, the proof is in the pudding.

Show me the votes for economic development - no lipservice - just the votes, Ma' am.
Oh, now, that card is absolutely HILARIOUS! Made me spit my Bud Lite on the computer screen here.
First, Mrs. Tippett worked for Winn-Dixie at the time they ended operations in South and North Carolina a couple of years ago. That decision was made in their corporate offices in Jacksonville, Florida, and had ZERO to do with any votes or non-votes by any local elected officials.
Yet, an empty Winn-Dixie store is used to illustrate the lack of economic development in Anderson County.
Somebody hasn't been paying attention, have they?
On the other side of the card, the Kohl's project is brought up. Correct me if I'm wrong, here, but didn't County Council reject putting money into that? Not just Cindy Wilson, but a MAJORITY OF COUNCIL, rightly rejected using taxpayer funds to give a competitive advantage to a RETAIL establishment in the City of Anderson.
I take no position on the Cindy Wilson Council race, since it doesn't affect me, but this card is one pathetic attempt to smear an elected official. Really. Whoever paid for it ought to demand a refund, because it was obviously put together by an IDIOT who doesn't even know what local government can and cannot do and shouldn't even be voting, let alone campaigning.
JD,
I'm guessing the picture of Winn-Dixie was a picture that was readily available. Take your pic, no pun intended, of other broken/empty facilities all over District 7, no, the whole county.
IMO - Chiquola Mills would have been better, but thats just me.

Two comments, and if they are in error, please let me know:
First, that particular WD looks like the one on 81. I think it is being remodeled for some sort ofcustomer response center, which is a plus for eco-developement.
Second, I believe the Kohl vote had nothing to do with eco-developement but rather was a protest vote because the City offerred a water rate reduction while others pay double.
Art ( where is he? ) can confirm/deny that.

JD,For the record, the reason the Winn dixie is still empty is because the man who owns it thinks it is made of gold.He is so tight and wants so much for it that no one will do the deal. That's called private enterprise folks. It reminds me of this touted need for secrecy on economic development so that land prices won't go up.

What about the land owner(s)? Don't they have a reasonable expectation that their government won't conspire to cheat them out of the value of their land? Guess not.
I, too, would imagine that Winn Dixie was just an example that was available. I agree – the Chiquola Mills would have been a much better example to use. But, as SSHM stated, the picture is simply a representation of the empty businesses that are available and ready for use.
However, I do find it interesting that the facts were not addressed. For example, the fact that Ms. Wilson is doing NOTHING to promote her district or this county as a fertile economic development opportunity for prospective industry. Just the opposite, her outlandish accusations and allegations make industry hesitant to bring their operations here.
During the February 19th meeting, after the initial vote on Kohl’s, a motion was made to reconsider - that opportunity to reconsider the Kohl's project was turned down by Ms. Wilson, although other council persons were open to discuss the options.
What about the Cheddar Tank Farm ethanol program? What about the special source revenue bond for sewer infrastructure? What about Ms. Wilson's long-standing record on voting against infrastructure (especially along the I85 corridor) to support the economic development we need?
The bottom line is this...I would be highly surprised if an Anderson County resident in need of employment would turn down a job that would provide sustainability to their family just because the means to get the company here was tax incentives. Better to get something than nothing. Didn’t someone once say, “A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush?”
I challenge you JD, or anyone else to come up with anything that Ms. Wilson has done to support economic development in her district or in the county??? BUT, don’t mention Walgreen’s – it doesn’t count if you personally profit from the deal (which she did –seems like a conflict to me). I really want to know.

Bud Lite, did I hear someone mention Bud Lite? I'm glad there is still one person left in this world of Prestonites that knows quality like I do. Yummm.
About the WD store on 81. I guarantee you one thing. It will be occupied because someone did something for the someone that controlled the entire thing. Agree?

PASS ME ANOTHER BUD LITE PLEASE. KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OF IT JOEY RAY!!!

When new industry moves into a county, EVERYBODY profits becaue it serves to keep down the residential tax base. What kind of bogus rule is that where you can't count an industry if it benefited you?
Last week it was Voters for Accountability in Government and Conservative Republicans. Did the Conservative Republicans drop out of the coalition?
Also, when is the next meeting of Voters for Accountability in Government?

Pappy,
You are correct on both points.
When new industry moves into a county, EVERYBODY profits becaue it serves to keep down the residential tax base. What kind of bogus rule is that where you can't count an industry if it benefited you?- JDTippett
JD: I believe Ms. Wilson got around $200,000 for acting as a broker for the land owner. She reported in AIM that the land owner was/is a friend who wanted someone they could trust to handle the deal and ensure the land was used environmentally responsible - or some such tripe. What was odd is that MCW came in at the end of the deal. All the ground work (no pun) was done by county economic development. The very department she derides. She did NOT bring Walgreen's Dist. Ctr. here. But, she profited nicely. Nice work if you can get it. That is not to say she violated any laws or ethics. Oddly, if that were anyone else she would likely have sued - gone to the Supreme Court, to find out "How" they got in on the deal?????? The lady is a ...... well you know ... a treat. I hope she gets defeated so we can end this soap opera in AC.
Nice work if you can get it? Well, you sure as hell ought to know. And just to address this recycled load of crap, Cindy Wilson's actions in regard to the Walgreen's project have been reviewed by every appropriate agency in the state. She has been found to have done nothing wrong in her actions on that deal. You know this Republikin, and so do you buffy. The same lies were told during the 2006 election cycle. this is classic Preston strategy - repeat the lies often enough and hope that people believe them. Can >anyone on any side of the Preston/Wilson issue honestly think that if she could have been hanged on that deal that she wouldn't have been? Come on, people. Get your heads back out in the sunshine.

Hey dunebunny, Do you have proof of that review. NO, it didn't happen. You are such a liar.
Republikin, are you trying to tell us a REAL ESTATE BROKER made money off the sale of some REAL ESTATE?
Good God! Next think you know somebody'll tell us an oil company executive made money off the sale of oil, a pharmaceutical representative made money off the sale of drugs and the guy who own the local car wash has made money from ... uhhh ... washing cars.
Is there no DECENCY in this world anymore?

Take a remedial reading class. I NEVER said she did anything unethical. In fact, I pointed that out. What I said was she got a nice payday. I guess that is ok with you because it's MCW? Why the double standard?

There you go again. You have no point to make so you resort to nonesense. Of course realtor make money - that includes McAbee. I'm merely pointing out the double standard used by some on this blog.
Republikin, I read your post AFTER mine and caught the point. You're right. It does seem that those who are defending CW's perfectly legitimate real estate dealings are the ones who are the quickest to jump on Bill McAbee's perfectly legitimate real estate dealings.
What's up with that, Dunebuggy? Different strokes for different folks?
Give me some credit here, Republikin. Ol' JD has defended BOTH of them.

Dune,
I don't have a pony in this race. But it's incorrect to conclude she has done nothing wrong. There is illegal wrong, immoral wrong and unethical wrong. The last two keep you out of jail but do raise questions, depending on what church you go to or what ethical code you subscribe to.
So, not one person can come up with a legitimate economically beneficial action by Ms. Wilson... Why am I not surprised?! The challenge still remains.
Last week it was Voters for Accountability in Government and Conservative Republicans. Did the Conservative Republicans drop out of the coalition?
