I'm much better informed now--you're a RINO. "Any place else . . . any other time, and I'd be classified as a dye-in-the-wool conservative" What other place and time? The time and place where "we're all Keynsians now?" Your name's not Bob Michel is it? I don't live in Anderson County, and you're not a conservative where I live either.
Why do you think I have a hang up? I said that I don't care if Adkins helped Romney or Rufus or the Lone Ranger. Neither does anyone else on this site.
But, thank you for letting us know what you really want.

Again ... your ignorance is illustrated in your replies. RHINOs in Anderson are the real Republicans. If you claim to be a Republican in Anderson, you're either a Libertarian that fancies the GOP logo, or an acolyte of the CAVE. But, by your own admission, you're not from here, so you wouldn't know . . . hmmm . . .
Hold that thought.
The other thing you need to understand about the Cocklebur is this: This is the equivalent of insider baseball - folks here know more about politics than the average bear. They are also very likely to educate other voters: Their friends and their families. Get a clue before you spout off about something you know nothing about.
It's important to note that a rule has been on the books since 1993 about endorsement. By reminding everyone of this rule, we can see, in proper context, that there are a number of former chairmen that seem to care less about the rules, including a certain state senator. Adkins endorsement of Romney AND his serving as the grassroots chariman WHILE STILL CHAIRMAN speaks volumes about his character. The folks here deserve to understand the person and the character of the person that is supporting Tom Allen. Nothing wrong with an informed electorate, is there?
Ok, back to the part about "not being here"
You wouldn't be one of those Pickens boys now would you?
Get a clue. For those that can vote in District 4, vote McAbee - June 10th.

So, you are still a Keynesian. That's okay, but I don't understand why you're embarassed by that. I am proud to be a conservative, why you're ashamed not to be one remains a puzzle to me.
And, I don't think any of this is lost on folks who aren't insiders. You don't like Adkins because he is supporting your guy's opponent. Okay, we get it!!! We're all informed--you hate Adkins, you love McAbee, etc., etc., etc.
What I want to know is why you call yourself a Republican. What is it about your political philosophy that makes you wear an elephant tie? In what time and place would you be a conservative?
And, I'm not from Pickens.
And, there's no "H" in RINO.

Major is right, by the way. "RHINO" is short for "RHINOCEROS." The "RINO" you're talking about means "Republican In Name Only."
I guess with all the posters on here who refer to "whackos" instead of "wackos" I shouldn't be surprised by an extra "h" every once in awhile.

SSHM....please keep talking. The more you talk the more everyone can see how close you are to Preston and McAbee and how liberal you are by backing those two. Keep convincing all real conservatives to vote for Tom Allen by doing exactly what you are doing. Thanks for helping us defeat McAbee and his four backers on council.

there wasn't a problem when you had a 4x8 for a candidate in your yard when you were chairman- kevin bryant
First of all, I thought Rick Adkins supported Huckabee. That would be more in line with his religious beliefs. His father is a minister, and he attends a Baptist Church. It's been almost a year, so somethings are forgotten.
I was a member of the executive committee for the Republican party in the late 80's til present. I specifically remember two things. We did pass a rule that a chairman not endorse a local candidate in primary. Can't remember if SSHM's date is correct or not, but never the less the rule was there for "local" races. The Presidential race was far from local, and I truly think Adkins was well within his right to support Romney, Huckeabee or Ron Paul for that matter. For crying out loud, he was on his way out as Chairman, and this story was written after he left office! So who cares. No one has brought it up at a meeting since. As a matter of fact, no one brought it up at the convention last year. I WAS THERE!
Second, Senator you are correct. In 2002, several members of the Executive Committee (including me) were supporting George Ducworth in the Republican Primary for Congress. Chairman Bill McAbee had a 4x8 Gresham Barrett sign in his yard. There was big discussion going on about if he could do this by party rules. I remember him saying it was not a "local" election, and it was not his sign! It was "HIS WIFE'S SIGN". That's right folks, he blamed in on MerryMacSC. Bill was not even man enough to admit it was on his property and his sign. He had to blame it on his wife.
As far as I know, Mr. Adkins is still a member of the Anderson County Republican Party. He is the current "Past Chairman" and can endorse anyone he wants too.
So, Bill/Amy, I mean SSHM what's the big deal? Who cares?

Your trumpet of Adkins "unethical" activity wouldn't be an attempt to overshadow the fact that McAbee parrticipated in an illegal council meeting last summer, would it?- major taylor
Innuendo, eh? Well, since it seems to be the only thing that has traction around here (which is sad), sure ... here you go:
Ask yourself - why would a highly successful mortgage broker suddenly up and leave the mortgage business? We're talking a matter of weeks here.
As for an "illegal council meeting," care to make anything else up this evening?
- SSHM- SSHM
Why don't you call him and ask him why he left the mortgage business?
I know why, because I was a client ( a long time ago), and called him last year about buying some rental property. He said he sold it to his partner to invest in other business opportunities.
I found his phone number it is 376-7400. Call him, ask him. Hopefully, that is still his number

Hmmm . . .
Maybe it's the fact that one of the greatest communicators from the last-half of the 20th Century was one of us . . .
Maybe it's the fact that I revel in my replies here when I say, between the lines, see, I told you so . . .
Maybe it's the fact that I've attended Silver Elephant Dinner . . .
Maybe it's the fact that I see the need to correct the infestation here at the local party, and bring it back in line with the state and national party.
There are Libertarians and John Birch Society-Type running around Anderson calling themselves Republicans - they are not. Take that nutball phlisophy to Columbia or national points beyond . . . you'll see how quickly it fails.
I think even Magpie recently commented on the "infestation" in the local Republican Party.

I have no idea who Adkins is, not really sure if he is the "past chairman" what relavance it has to anything.
However on another note, calling someone a RINO because he supports one republican over another is NUTS. The republican party is supposed to be made up with people that can think and debate and actually come to an educated decision for themselves. Now as far as referring to SSHM as Bill McAbee, they are not the same person. I met both of them at the first blog lunch at GC. Now, I am not a huge fan of a lot of republicans because they have stopped being conservative. They want the gov to cut taxes and every other thing, but those with half a brain realize that if some of the monies are not spent on roads and infastructure there will be no new business here. So lets first realize most of us want the same thing some just go about it differently. If the RP doesn't soon start acting like republicans there will be no republican party. This spending on things not relavent to the general welfare of the public has got to stop. They have to start being concerned where our money is being spent and how much. The county just like the country have to stay within a budget where we actually something to put away for a rainy day.

The Great (not "one of the greatest") Communicator sure wasn't a guy who believed in more spending and more government. Apparently he didn't communicate very effectively with you as you cannot recall his admonition that "Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem." Please remove yourself from "us."
If you're reading between the lines on this blog, then you need glasses--there's nothing between the lines, this isn't that complicated. Perhaps that's why you keep refering to an informed electorate. You keep informing us of something we already know.
You paid $100 to drive to Columbia and eat lunchroom food with a bunch lobbyists and other assorted hacks? That doesn't make you a Republican. It makes you a sucker.
Infestation is a term similar to what country club Republicans (like Bob Michel) use to describe pro-lifers. I detect a different agenda here.
I also know who you are. You're a Keynesian. You believe in big government taking more of our money and spending it.
I keep telling you who I am, but perhaps you're too busy reading between the lines. I AM A CONSERVATIVE.

I’m assuming ya’ll are referring to the Gipper that said these wonderful historic tidbits:
"A friend of mine was asked to a costume ball a short time ago. He Slapped some egg on his face and went as a liberal economist."
"Government is like a baby: An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other."
“No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth!”
"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

Willieh,
I will probably regret this post but here goes anyway. Bill did not "blame" his wife for the Gresham Barrett sign in his front yard in 2002. I proudly support Gresham Barrett for Congress from the very first inkling I had that he was going to run for that seat. I have never regretted that decision. Congressman Barrett is one of othe finest men to ever have served in Congress. I told Gresham he could put up a sign in my front yard. South Carolina is a true community property state. I figured I had the right to put up a sign on my half of the property. Bill and I both took a lot of heat for my decision to openly endorse Gresham in that primary. If you truly are/were a member of the Anderson GOP executive committee then you remember the vitriolic statements made about me and Bill. I believe I was called the "uncontrollable wife" among other things. Statements were made about Bill being unfit to be chairman if he couldn't even control his wife. In fact this brou-ha-ha grew into such a tempest in a teapot that Gresham sent people out here to take the sign down. We did not ask Gresham to do this. He did it because he did not want to cause Bill any trouble. There were many people in Anderson who supported Gresham Barrett in 2002. I continue to support him today and will continue to support him in the future.
And Senator Bryant
