Okay Queen, I've had a little rheumatiz medicine to loosen up the fingers, so here goes.
District 1 - Waldrep - fairly easily - Mackay is a transparent Joey puppet, no matter how much he protests that he is his own man. His personals don't come across well either. Mackay fans also underestimate the support Bob has in seeking this financial information. Not everyone in District One drinks white wine, folks.
District 2 - Rev. Wright pulls Gracie through big
District 3 - Eddie Moore in a squeaker - Larry's pious posturing too often ends in hypocrisy, often during the same meeting.
District Four - I don't think Joey wants another hungry dog turned loose to bite him (Busha, Thompson, Scott, no wonder we need a bigger animal shelter) so he'll scrap like hell to save Bill. (Michael is a different story.) Billy McAbee in a close one.
District 5 - Tommy Dunn - Michael Thompson's avuncular charm doesn't translate well outside of Sullivan's. (Hey Stupid, did you use that word first? If not, feel free to beat it to death for the next few days.)
District 6 - the most interesting race of all because it clearly pits the Greenville work force against the more traditional Anderson voter base. How much ground had Ron regained since the zoning fiasco? And is the C&D; landfill a bigger issue than a fifty million dollar budget increase in two years? Those are the issues.
Freemantle has outworked Ron but Dan Cooper and Freddie Zink are still big guns in that end of the county. If anyone was wondering how comfortable Dan and Joey are, Joey's presence at the stump meeting cleared it up for most folks. I thought an SCV meeting was going to break out for a minute there.
Nevertheless, Marse Ron wins it fairly easily, even without Powdersville's black vote..
District 7 - Cindy Wilson in a bloodbath. The more folks learn about Hooper, the lower his numbers fall. A story may break between now and June 10th that will throw the Hooper candidacy into meltdown, and I mean Three Mile Island meltdown. Stay tuned!
If Ron would do some testing more than a mile from Highway 81, they'd already know that three grand got pissed away. The best thing Hooper said at the Republican forum was when he was whining about losing his signs and how much they cost. Hell, Doug, it's not like you paid for them!
For the record, every incumbent who voted to appropriate Cindy Wilson's recreation funds and spend it themselves will feel the impact of that decision at the polls. The anger over that arrogance is widespread and has stamina.
Anyway, Queen, there they are. And as far as I'm concerned, the bet is between you and I alone. I know I would enjoy dinner with you. I have no such assurance about dining with some of these others.
Good luck. See you on the 11th.
