At the GOP County Council debate, Rick Freemantle offered a concise, straightforward explanation as to why the Republican Party is at risk of becoming a regional, Southern party.
Tired of watching politicians continuously insult each other on CNN, I decided to watch them do it live at the Anderson County GOP County Council candidate debate. My expectations were met. I believe it was in his closing remarks that Rick Freemantle made a statement that went something like the following:
"THERE'S NO ROOM FOR LIBERALS IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!"
In other words, Candidate Freemantle seemed to be suggesting that entire demographic, socioeconomic, & philosophical blocks of voters should make an exit from the GOP. His words stand a plausible chance of being prophetic.
The record voter turnouts at the various Democratic Primary elections across America suggest that the GOP is a shrinking tent. Congressional Republicans have changed their role to that of the loyal opposition: the minority party.
Consider that Southern states tend to be a more "Conservative" block than other regions of the county. Should Candidate Freemantle and other likeminded people in the GOP stay true to their beliefs, and insist that entire blocks of voters have no home with them, then the future of the GOP may be that of a shrinking, regional, Southern party.
Is Rick Freemantle the future of the Republican Party? The numbers suggest plausibility and not impossibility. Especially if his sentiments include Moderate voters. If not in the GOP, then where will those votes go?
In the mean time, we can all watch the growing Democratic Party fracture itself from internal friction.

They have already begun the purge of the moderates...
they call them RHINO's..and they shoot to kill..
they can rest at night knowing that they have killed the party of Lincoln and Reagan.

This guy at Charlotte City Council reminds me of Rick Freemental:

Of course, at the same time we can't forget what the DEMOCRATIC PARTY has done to Joe Lieberman and, to some extend, Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Joe Lieberman went nuts about war and Israel a long time ago, we just didn't notice it until the Iraq War.
As for Hill and Billary, the party hasn't done anything to them. They lost and want to play outside the rules and people are calling them out for their racially divisive political style too.
Don't worry folks -
The Republican party here is already losing many long-time republicans for several reasons.
1) The GOP has been hijacked locally by the CAVE group including such notables as Crow, Sanders, Driver, Harvell, West, and her girl Cindy. And, you are right, Freemantle is in there too. These whackos are driving away many good folks with the help of their favorite radio show.
2) Anyone who doesn't vote as told by that group is labeled a RINO. This drives away many good republican members of council.
3) They insult northerners who come down here, calling them Yankees and Damn Yankees, even though many of our friends from the north are republicans (or were).
4) They don't learn from those with experience outside the county (We don't care how they did it up north!)
So if you still want to be a republican, get in lock-step with CAVE, vote as you are told (pull ONLY the republican lever), be sure to claim to have been born here, and NEVER cite any example of anything that was done well anywhere else in the USA.
Since I object to the hijacking of the republican party by these jerks, I will remain PROUDLY A RINO !
By the way, CAVE folks. Freemantle is a YANKEE. Now what will you do ?

I wish Bill Dees would have run again this time. I think he could've easily beaten Wilson if he would've campaigned hard. I think it was Freemantle that said at the debate the other night that Ron Wilson campaigned for lower taxes and voted for a higher tax increase than Dees had voted for in the 6 years he was on Council. I don't know if Freemantle has much of a chance, but it would be funny to see him sitting beside Gracie up there.
Rick Freemantle has assured Ron Wilson of re-election. The CAVErs can tell themselves he is their savior but they are in denial. There is no way he will win.
Sadly the original comment is on target in my opinion. I feel that I am conservative, even called "Cindy-lite," but sometimes feel that I am a wild liberal compared to some of the local Republicans. But please do not smear ALL locals based upon a few. Lee Rogers is conservative, yes, but he is open minded and trying to lead with reason and collaboration among the various elements of the Republican party. I believe he is trying to keep those of us who are long-time Republicans from feeling pushed out of the party locally.
We sure are not in the Democrat camp....

I think in Anderson County and even throughout the country many people are becoming dissatisfied with Republicans because they have lost their consevative principles. Simply being against gay marriage and abortion does not cut it anymore because most of the new Democrats running are against those types of things as well.
We need some truly conservative Republican leadership that is going to hold the line on taxes and spending, develop new conservative fiscal policies and accept nothing less than fully open and accountable government.

Lee,
You're close, but that's not it.
Would everyone like to hear the secret to reforming the Republican Party in Anderson? Would you?
It's a neat concept called Practical Conservatism (tm).
That's my phrase. Shall we begin with the quick lesson?
Practial Conservatism resides on four legs of support, much like a sturdy table.
Leg 1 - Work: People want employment that will be there today, tomorrow, and for years to come. Work provides income which in turn allows for people to provide for personal security and stability.
Leg 2 - Home: People want to return to the idea that a home is their castle. A place that is secure and safe. That safety has to extend beyond the borders of their property. The safety has to cover the neighborhood and serve to preserve the integrity of said neighborhood.
Leg 3 - School: Education and keeping the cost of education within the realm of the common man is critical to the success of both the community and society as a whole. The opportunity for betterment through education must exist for all - it is up to the individual to take advantage of said opportunity.
Leg 4 - Wal-Mart: The procurement of goods (food, clothing, fuel, etc) and the prices associated with those goods must be available at reasonable prices within the framework of a free-market economy.
That is a table by which all true conservatives can sit at. The true Republicans, not our Libertarian friends that fancy the GOP label, can sit at this table and move the party forward.
For the Republicans that have posted in this thread, I would appreciate your feedback.

Don't worry folks -Buster. you remind me of a woman just learning to crochet. You string together a bunch of stitches, then you unravel them and start again. First you rant about how the Cave people have no influence but you say they are hijacking the party. You say they insult Yankees and refuse to learn from people from outside the area, then you whine about how they support Rick Freemantle, who you loudly point out is a Yankee.

So, who won the debate today? Candidate Freemantle or Candidate Wilson?
