Just some observations from last nights debate for everyone to consider. In no particular order or reference to incumbent or challenger or the inquisitors:

Eddie Snore (er, Moore) – I like how this guy talks about personnel matters and how if he were on County Council he would handle it. Specifically he would involve all of the members of council on personnel matters. Sounds good but . . .

Ummm … if you include ALL of the members of council Mr. Snore, you now have a quorum and you now have a public meeting by which you can conduct county business. I guess no one briefed him on what a quorum is, what happens when you have a quorum of CC members present, etc. etc. Dumb, dumb, dumb . . .

Speaking of dumb . . .

Tom Allen – I’ll offer to you, like I have offered to other bloggers here, free attendance to my remedial Civics Class so you too can learn about the US Constitution, the three branches of government, and a “neat” concept called common law. In case you missed it last night folks, Mr. Allen was quoted as saying the Founding Fathers came up with Term Limits . . .

The 22nd Amendment was proposed on March 21, 1947 and subsequently ratified on February 27, 1951. While it’s nice that Mr. Allen is attempting to group Harry S. Truman into the group of our Founding Fathers (Truman was President from April 12, 1945 to January 20, 1953), it’s certainly not accurate.

Oh, did I mention the fact that Mr. Allen served on the Anderson County Board of Education? Yet he does not have a grasp of some of the most basic concepts of American Civics . . . scary.

While we’re still talking about Stupid, lets look at Rickey Dribble this morning.

Questions surrounding Ron Wilson’s donations to various political campaigns are really not necessary. Why? Let me introduce you to something called the Hatch Act.

Hatch Act for State and Local Authorities

What Mr. Wilson has done is both legal and within his rights, both as an individual and as a public servant. In short: GET OVER IT.

Oh, and how can we forget about Rip van Waldrep.

Mr. “I supported the Palmetto 800 system, yet never voted for it” Waldrep. That’s a very Clintonesque thing to say Mr. Waldrep. I would equate that to “I didn’t inhale” or “It depends on what your definition of IS is.” As we watched Old Bob dance around the Palmetto 800 system, we never really heard what he was for. It is true that questions were indeed asked about what is important to District One, but, the message was never clear.

Dare I go so far as to say that he didn’t answer a question? Yes I will …

Rip van Waldrep failed to directly answer the questions posed by the board. In fact, allow me to summarize his response to each and every question asked of him last night:

Answer 1: ramble ramble ramble . . . TOGA . . . ramble ramble ramble . . .

Answer 2: ramble ramble ramble . . . Palmetto 800 . . . ramble ramble . . . TOGA . . . ramble

Well, it’s great he’s for Transparent and Open Government (TOGA). However, what about the roads in our district? What about economic development? What about jobs? Last time I checked, you don’t get those items addressed while running a witch-hunt.

More to come . . .

Almost forgot . . .

Today's Local Political Trivia Question:

Q: Who was the Chairman of Anderson County Council the last time a dirty audit was reported.

A: Robert Waldrep in 1992

Think about that . . .

I wonder if Mr. Allen's comments regarding term limits would also apply to Cindy Wilson, or is he selective in his "term limits"? I know I've reached my limit with Ms. Wilson.

Good Lord have mercy SSHM! Dirty audits under the past 1992 regime of Bob Waldrep (then Chairman) and Hunter (then Finance Director)? You put that toothpaste back in the tube right now. That is not the kind of stuff the "transparent and open government" campaign was intended to disclose.

Still more musings . . .

I noticed a number of members of the audience last night suffered from a condition called RCSU.

Simply put, RCSU (Rude, Crude and Socially Unacceptable) is a behavioral condition that can be controlled. Symptoms include the following:

* Selective coughing when someone that does not share your opinion is speaking.

* Unanswered pagers, wrist watches, or cell phones that are intentionally set to ring aloud and are ignored.

* Talking above an audible whisper when someone that does not share your opinion is speaking.

* Grumbling and rumblings not associated with your digestive track.

In the future the ACRP should address these symptoms directly

Due to a family issue, I was unfortunately unable to attend this forum. Was it recorded so that it can be viewed online?

George,

You've hit another nail on the head.

I didn't submit an FOIA to get that information.

I didn't need a "transparent and open government" to get that information.

You know why? Do you really want to know why?

Because I'm not lazy. I'm willing to dig through the piles and piles of information that is available ONLINE, RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE to learn more about my local goverment and to THINK FOR MYSELF.

It's all there for you to see. It might not be the best organized or the easiest to sift through, but it's there.

County Government (and City too ) is all ready open and accessible to the masses. If you spent more time in front of a computer terminal getting the information rather than picketing about a lack of access to information, you'd learn very quickly that things are online and accessible.

The excuse that you don't have a computer won't fly either. My fellow Andersonians, you have one of THE FINEST library systems in the state. USE IT! Use the computers in the library to do research - to check on local, state, and the federal government. It's not that tough.

If you think it's tough, ask a librarian. They should be more than willing to assist you.

As an open & free economy goes, I would suggest to you that you invent a pill for that symptomatic condition called RCSU.
In today's ill society, I imagine the hordes will flock to their doctors and purchase this in droves, and you'll make more money than Pfiser, Merck, GlaxoSmithKline & Johnson&Johnson; combined.

Lordy, Lordy! All these shifting and blustery political winds are threatening to leave the TOGA wearers exposed. And all the while, a class 5 political hurricane (SC Supreme Court Decision on attorney-client privilege) sits just off the proverbial coast building strength. Better gird your loins TOGA's.

Being Chairman when a dirty Audit is reported will only stain the Chair if he fails to do something to correct the findings.

Now, I imagine Waldrep is reluctant to believe folks when they say "Trust me, everything is fine." Was he trusting and lied to in the past? It happened to me, folks, in my past working life.

Trust but verify!

I believe he fled, er, was elected to the SC Senate in 1992, with his first days of service in early 1993.

Speaking of trust, the Clintonesque connection has more truth than you think . . .

Bob was a Democrat that changed parties in 1992. Now, if you would like to review an extensive list of party-switchers, take a look here. You'll see Bob's name along with several other prominent Demo-er, I mean, Republicans on that list.

Ask yourself: Did they really change their political philosophy or was it in an effort to assure continued political service during the ramp-up to the RNC's Contract With America.

I think Bob was at the wrong debate last night . . .

Don't get run over by the RHINOs folks!

Nah, this TOGA doesn't need to gird anything, George.

All I have to do is watch replays of Super Bowl XXVII from January 1993, only instead of one Dallas Cowboys jersey reading "LETT" it'll read "BURDELL."

Great catch SSHM you got me on using the wrong word when discussing term limits. The Founding Fathers did not establish term limits however they did discuss, ponder, and consider the idea. Without going through the Federalist and anti-Federalist papers I'll just say that is basically why no president until FDR served more than two terms which ultimately led to the 22nd amendment. At least I gave you something to harp about. My offer is still open to you and anyone else to meet for a one on one discussion of any topic. That's more fun than hiding behind a pseudonym and taking pot shots.

Now now Mr. Allen! If you take away the only motivation for someone to exercise their working brain cells by removing their anonymity, where's the sport?
Besides, It's not like SSHM needs a reason to find fault or folly with anyone here. Some are just born perfekt

I for one look forward to the day when Tom Allen gets to kick the stupidass Bill McAbee out of that seat on Council. Tom, please demand a new chair and have McAbee's stinking chair burned at the stake on the public square. I hope Billie Boy has kept his CDL license up cause he's gonna need them soon.

With all due respect sir, that is not true.

There was never a LEGAL precedent to abstain from presidential terms beyond the second. In fact, George Washington was offered a third term, for which he refused and historians point to as the traditional precedent for not serving beyond a second term, consecutive or otherwise.

Again, it was not until the 22nd Amendment was ratified that serving only two terms as President moved from tradition to law. Don’t forget: FDR would still likely disagree with you today.

Now, for the historical context of Term Limits, all that one needs to do is to look towards James Madison and Federalist Paper No. 53. In the following passage, he elaborates as to why the Constitutional Convention of 1787 rejected term limits:

"a few of the members of Congress will possess superior talents

Seems Bill McAbee is doing his job. Check out the article today online about the 350 jobs locating in an Empty but renovated Big Box retailer.

The Big Box Retailer Rehabilitation Resolution was proposed by Bill McAbee in February of 2007. Way to go McAbee!

I expected SSHM to comment on "Brother" Bailey running for District 5 seat.

I think he said all he wants to do for Anderson is get jobs, jobs, jobs. No explanation as to how he intends to accomplish this.

When I shook his hand and asked his opinion on dual water rates, all I got was a blank stare. He appently had no idea about an issue that involves thousands of his possible constituents.

As for his attire. . .'nuff said.
