Thank you for the clearing up that information for me uscgang.

Whattheheck, I’m not trying to say you’re wrong about the response time issue, or that Skipper is wrong, or that Crenshaw is wrong. I’m just asking for a true representation of what is being presented. As JD so graciously displayed to us yesterday about the issue of the mil and taxes, it all depends on how you look at what is being presented and knowing what it is you’re being presented with.

When you’re talking averages, you really aren’t seeing the true picture anyway. In fact, I just found in a book this statement: “…the mean is greatly affected by extreme values. As such, one or more numbers in a data set that are unusually high or unusually low (in comparison to the other numbers in the data set) will tend to ‘skew’ the mean.” (skew – the author’s word, not mine) So, do you look at an average (mean)? A median? A mode? Do you look at a frequency distribution? Do you toss the highest and the lowest?

Take this number set as an example: 3 4 5 6 22 The average is 8. If you look back at the data, you’ll see that the actual number was only over the number 8 once in this group. So, is the number 8 a good representation for this group of numbers? If you find the median, the number that falls in the middle, we would get 5. That is a much better representation of this particular set of data. What about the mode? In this instance it would be 0. There isn’t one number that appears more often than another. Maybe Crenshaw should use the mode for his calculations and have a modal response time of 0

An average is just that… an average. There are going to be some people who see a response in less than, (I’ll just use your 5 min hold time, 11 min to get there) 16 minutes and others who see a response in more than 16 minutes. Hopefully, that average will fall somewhere in the middle but without looking at the numbers as a whole and the distribution of those numbers, there's really no way to know. The only thing that truly matters is that someone responds in a timely manner to deal with the issue at hand.

What is timely? Well for you it might be 3 minutes, for me it might be 30 minutes, kind of like waiting for Dominos I suppose it would also depend on what my emergency was. If I had some things stolen out of my garage overnight, I wouldn’t expect to see someone as quickly as if I called with a man holding a gun to my head.

Glad I saved those old college statistics books

And you just made my point exactly... thank you.

Getmeout…maybe you should get with uscgang as he seems to have had no problem getting his hands on those shift activity reports from the SO (on SO letter head). You should also tell Crenshaw that little bit of information about the reports from the Emergency Services Division could very well be "skewed" as it is that report he is using to state the response times are 11.5 min

The three dispathers went to Central Dispatch under the control of the Sheriff three to four months after the Sheriff took office. November of 2006 Central Dispatch took over all dispatchers.

Whattheheck?, no comment on Skipper's vision??

OK, I don’t know just where my point got lost here, but I will try again.
I agree with you that the numbers are a misrepresentation of the facts. AGAIN…I Agree.
But Crenshaw still boasted about his response times that he got from the Emergency Services Division

Great post there republickin...just so full of verifiable facts and in depth information to help us make our decision on...and it makes you look really smart too...NOT. Please give it up...so you purchased a fridge from Crenshaw and it quit working right after the warranty went out...it's OK...move on.

Hey - BoneheadXpert - the frig he sold me was smaller that he is - reminded me of your brain - frozen solid.

This forum had to be postponed because Crenshaw would not confirm if he was going to participate in time to reserve the space.

(This is the second time Crenshaw has stalled...first was with WRIX )

I will let you know when the date and time is as soon as I know...

I don’t think this is going to be all that close and I know it will not be another four years of Crenshaw.

Vote Skipper June 10th.

Rumor has it that Crenshaw has ordered his Narc’s to start making a bust a day to keep him in the paper until the primary. What desperation this man must feel. WHY have they not been doing this already? Why did they have to wait until a week and a half before Crenshaw is voted out to start doing their job in earnest! Does Crenshaw really think that the people of Anderson County are so naïve to not see this for what it really is

AAHHH, you noticed the "meth lab" numbers too. I also find it funny after the "biggest lab I've ever seen" there were no drugs or suspects. Kinda like the year long investigation that netted only 45 warrants. Are you kidding me? A year long investigation by the vice unit, along with other officers....and only 45 warrants? A road deputy should be able to obtain 45 "street level" warrants in a year, by himself, along with all the other duties. As for narcotics seized...as usual, "not as much as we would have liked". Seems like a lot of "top stories" coming out around election time. It just seems these "top stories" are just run of the mill police work that are neither "top stories" or all that impressive.

Maybe your deputies could stay awake if they had more time off and didn't have to work so many hours to cover up for your constant turnover. I will ask you this Crenshaw, how can you wait to decide if your going to punish him for a driving violation when you drove over a year unlawfully? More to the point on that question, how many DL violation citations have your deputies written since you broke the law? I guess this is the "do as I say, not as I do" law enforcement philosophy you stated some could not embrace.

Did anyone attend the debate this morning I did and I must say there were a few of the Skipper supporters there who really scared me.(Remember I do not scare easy) The stupidest question asked (which was submitted by a Skipper fan) was Do you believe there was a Cater Lake investigation I laughed my butt off , How freakin stupid can you get ? Sorry I believe they could of asked a question that is imperative to the current times not an old worn out he said/she said bulls@#t.
Now before anyone gets their panties in a ruffle and start cussing me out, let me set the record straight. I have met Skipper several times as I may think he is a nice person, I do not feel he would make a good sheriff remember we are all entitled to our own opinion.. Have a happy day

As my work schedule did not allow another debate to be attended, I missed this one ( and streaming media is verbotten at work, so no YouTube moments for me)....so I am wondering Angel, did any of the "impromtu and unscripted questions" come from the Crenshaw supporters? Was anything like crime stats, response times then & now, or reductions in staff presented?
What kind of dumkoff would ask such a frikkin dumbassed question of heresay and unverifiable nonsense at a political debate? Oh, my bad, it's the Driver crowd holding this forum!

Yes dear several of us submitted question, none were asked. I found it interesting how Skipper answered a couple of questions with " I will have to look into that" Sorry if your running for office you should at least know how things are run yes, that includes the jail..

Know how things are run if running for office????? Did Crenshaw not say during this very debate that he made the mistake with his "more with less" comment because he didn't know how bad the Sheriff's office was? Crenshaw STILL says he is "trying to get his arms around it" after almost 4 years. Yet Skipper should already have these answers.

While I don't give a care about "Catergate" I am concerned with honesty. Is that not an important trait of a Sheriff?

I'd say it's difficult to ascertain how bad things really are if the HONEST truth is hidden from view.

Taylor didn't disclose the FACTS the vehicles were over lease useage, nor did he say staff turnover was higher than before, nor did he disclose Solicitor's reluctance to deal with jail overcrowding( hence the need for a bigger jail for holding more pre-trial or as-yet arraigned defendants)
Not all FACTS are easy for Joe Candidate to find out either. Would YOU disclose your flaws during a race? Not likely, as it gives ammo to your opponent.

Vote June 10th for Crenshaw/Drawdy

What did the jail have to do with the "more with less" promise? The jail was seperate when Crenshaw was elected. Also again, after almost 4 YEARS Crenshaw is STILL trying to get his arms around it. Who has been telling him falsehoods the last three years? I guess that's Taylors fault too. So now how is Skipper expected to answer these questions before he is elected when Crenshaw can't answer them after three years?

Vote Skipper/Drawdy

Good questions, Former Cop.

I see a trend in the last two posts, by the way. One said, "Vote Crenshaw/Drawdy" and the other said "Vote Skipper/Drawdy."

The commonality is simple: "Vote ... Drawdy.
