Race for Sheriff
Maybe they're like lawyers, Ed. I tell people I grew up in a small town that didn't have enough people to justify having a lawyer - but if we could have found TWO lawyers to come to town at the time time, both of them could have made a fortune.
You know, law is the only profession on earth whose primary purpose is to generate work for others in the same profession. (With the possible exception, of course, of the military.)
They have to come in pairs, I guess. Like the breeding mules that I recently sold Pappy. (Pappy is trying to get into the bidness to raise $ to pay his water bill.)
Maybe PAPPY should have gotten into the bidness of breeding LAWYERS, Ed.
You know, there are some things a mule just won't do.

Naw, I'm in the bidness of breedin' transparent city managers.
Been at it for years without success.
I am eagerly awaiting some answers from both candidates.
For Crenshaw:
How do you explain your judgement in making Tim Busha your Chief Deputy?
Do you still stand behind the Catergate sting story?
For Skipper:
What is your feeling about maintaing operational control of the detention center?
Do you see the need for a seperate police force as in the County Park Police?
For Both:
What do you think of a county wide police force without individual town police forces?
Can you do the job of leading your organization without increasing costs more than the rate of inflation?
- non sequitur
Crenshaw has already answered the last one and that is NO...He is asking for $5 million more. The $2.5 million "loan" to become a part of his budget and another $2.5 million on top of that. This is the man who said "I can do more with less" and then in the article above states
"Recently, more than 45 arrest warrants were issued for street-level drug dealers. But Crenshaw said that could have been better if he had the resources to double his team of six narcotics officers".
“With the tax situation the way it is, I don’t know if that will ever happen,” he said. “I don’t know whether the citizens are willing to pay it or not.”
Now it is the tax payers fault that he can not do better with what he has . I am sorry, but Crenshaw is the one who said "I will do more with less" Not we the taxpayers!
I just hope that he does not make that threat of not arresting criminals again like he did the last time the County Council did not give him what he wanted.

I would think anyone could do common math and see why the sheriffs office needs more funds. Everyone complains and wants faster, more dependable response times but they dont want to pay for it. WIth the cost of gas constantly rising, I am sure they need an increase. Even if Skipper were to win the budget is going to have to go up. People in this town want everything for nothing.. The question you really need to be asking yourself is this....
During the Taylor administration the sheriffs dept. went over budget but the service was still poor..(Skipper was part of this administration) While Crenshaw has went over budget , atleast services have improved and there is something to show for the money. What did Taylor and his administration do with the money? It sure didnt go into new cars, overtime, or hiring more deputies? So, IS Skipper capable of managing the current budget and providing better services ? I doubt it . Look who he learned from.. Taylor was far from a great role mode ( AND COOLEY WAS!!!???)- clemsonfan
Just how much did Taylor go over? $100.00? $1000.00? That is your only complainant…You provide no proof to this at all. Taylor did buy new cars, just because they were black you did not notice…
You also keep say that Skipper is like Taylor and that is just stupid. Skipper is his own man. It would be just as stupid to say that Crenshaw learned from Cooley and is just like Cooley. Not even I would do that
This morning on WAIM. Crenshaw’s answer to the first three questions..."I don’t know"
Crenshaw admitted to "Skewing" the response times

I was home visiting my mother for mother's day this weekend and John Skipper came to our door on Saturday evening.
I voted for him in 2006 and will most likely vote for him again this time around. I sure hope we can get rid of Good Ole' Boy Crenshaw.- ahammett
That would mean that you would have to vote in the Republican Primary. Aren't you a liberal democrat?
Whatheheck, you're right.. I keep sayng that Skipper is just like Taylor. In my opinion, he will be. When he worked for Taylor I never saw Skipper doing anything to make improvements. He just worked under Taylor and dealt with. During Crenshaws time as sheriff there have been drastic improvements made in all aspects of the sheriffs office and the way they handle crime. It is ALL actually taken seriously. Maybe you never had to deal with the former administration or never had any reason to call for help. During Taylors time as sheriff, I know they bought new cars but they were in desperate need of new ones well before he left office. Also, what does it matter the ammount that Taylors administration had went over budget? They should have never went over a single penny because service was horrible. It is clearly seen and understood where that $2.5 million went when Crenshaw went over. The deputies could actually be seen patrolling for once.
If Skipper is elected , all of us should only hope that he continues with the progress that Crenshaw has made. I just dont see that happening.

So, in 2001-2002, the grant money Skipper obtained to outfit all uniformed shift patrol cars with laptops and CDPD modems was . . . ?
Yeah ... thats what I thought - an IMPROVEMENT.
Vote June 10th.

Shhhh! SSHM, how DARE you throw a fact into a debate like that. You're going to confuse ClemsonFan.

Wait JD ... I have one more of those ... what did you call them ... oh yeah, FACTS.
The CDPD Modems doubled as GPS devices, permitting ACSO to track deployment of uniform shift patrol cars across the county. In other words, in 2001-2002, we had the ability to direct, on-the-fly, the nearest uniformed officer to an area of need.

Hey, Clem, did Skipper ever condone a cover-up that rose perilously close to a conspiracy to obstruct justice?

If it were such an improvement, then why did it still take an hour or more to get a deputy ?
It's funny all the things that Taylor/Skipper did are facts.. However, If someone supports Crenshaw all anyone gets to hear is that he went overbudget and had an expired DL.. As far as some of you are concerned, those are the only facts about Crenshaw... Its not a fact at all that a deputy arrives now in less than 15 minutes. There is no confusion at all on my part, I see the changes that have been made.. A failing department now runs more efficiently than it used to.

Oh yeah, thats great! We could direct them there but they still had trouble finding their way within less than an hour.. We must have had alot of lost deputies in Anderson County.. That improvement doesnt mean much when the sheriff cant make sure his deputies are on the scene within less than an hour of the call..

Now hang on Mr. Expert Logistics Guy . . .
Anderson County covers 757sq miles. Let me once again ask this question:
WHERE ARE THE SUBSTATIONS, PEOPLE?
If you are attempting to cover 757sq miles from a central dispatch point and/or one, maybe two substations, you're never going to have ideal response times, period. For the record, you can't pin that on the sheriff.
Go ask your county council members why ACSO does not have strategically located substations all over the county that are properly staffed and funded at 100%.
Think about it . . .

Actually , you can pin that on the sheriff. Why are response times impoved now compared to what they were? I suppose its magic, huh? During Taylors administration, I worked at a business where we had to call the cops frequently. WE were lucky to see a deputy within an hour. (The business was less than 2 miles from the sheriffs office.) During Crenshaws first two years as sheriff while I was still employed there, a deputy arrived in less than 15-20 minutes on all occasions. This has nothing to do with sub-stations, sorry.

Actually, it has everything to do with it. If your former place of employment was less than 2 miles from the front door of ACSO, then I would most certainly expect excellent response times.
You haven't said how to deal with the other 755sq miles of Anderson County and guarantee that same level of response (15-20 minutes). Based on a recent personal experience with disbatch, where the county was a no-show, I think I'll be looking to vote for a change come June 10th.
AND ... a vote of support for those AC Council Members who support a fully-funded, fully-staffed substation program.

So, by your standard...
It would be ok for someone to take money that they are not authorized to take as long as they spend it on something good? Where there you go folks…What is the difference between a person getting robbed and the suspect giving the money to the Haven of Rest? It is not so clear where the money went. If you know, please share with us…oh wait
