Sheriff Candidates

I am looking forward to the debates between Skipper and Crenshaw.

I have seen many signs for both up around the county and it really sticks out that most of Crenshaws’ signs are at business and on right-of-ways (Hwy 81N two signs on "land for sale") while most of Skippers are at residences. Of course Crenshaw has some at residences and Skipper has some at local merchants

There is also an independent candidate running for sheriff.
His website is at: http://www.sheriffforthepeople.com/
I don't know much about him, but most of what he is saying makes sense, especially about the vehicle assignments.

Hopefully he will be allowed to debate whomever the Republican nominee is.

Actually Mr. Gough is not eligible to run for sheriff and has been advised of that (I guess he just don’t care to know the rules ). You have to attend and complete the SCCJA and have 5 years of Law Enforcement experience to run for sheriff in South Carolina. Where Mr. Gough has the years of experience he does not have the Cert. from the SCCJA. It’s a shame to con all of those who are supporting him when he can’t even get on the ballot.

He must be part of the WAI'm out of material crowd. What a shame.

I am eagerly awaiting some answers from both candidates.

For Crenshaw:
How do you explain your judgement in making Tim Busha your Chief Deputy?
Do you still stand behind the Catergate sting story?

For Skipper:
What is your feeling about maintaing operational control of the detention center?
Do you see the need for a seperate police force as in the County Park Police?

For Both:
What do you think of a county wide police force without individual town police forces?
Can you do the job of leading your organization without increasing costs more than the rate of inflation?

Crenshaw has already answered the last one and that is NO...He is asking for $5 million more. The $2.5 million "loan" to become a part of his budget and another $2.5 million on top of that. This is the man who said "I can do more with less" and then in the article above states
"Recently, more than 45 arrest warrants were issued for street-level drug dealers. But Crenshaw said that could have been better if he had the resources to double his team of six narcotics officers".

“With the tax situation the way it is, I don’t know if that will ever happen,” he said. “I don’t know whether the citizens are willing to pay it or not.”

Now it is the tax payers fault that he can not do better with what he has . I am sorry, but Crenshaw is the one who said "I will do more with less" Not we the taxpayers!

I just hope that he does not make that threat of not arresting criminals again like he did the last time the County Council did not give him what he wanted.

I just checked the qualifications for sheriff at:

http://www.scstatehouse.net/CODE/t23c011.htm

and I don't see anything disqualifying Gough. It does say you have to attend those classes during your first term, but does not state they are needed before running for office.

You need to contact Jeff Moore at the South Carolina Sheriffs' Association. The class you are referring to is the "Sheriff Class" that all new sheriffs must attend

Then how did Gene Taylor get elected and serve for 20 years? He was a weather man...

PalmettoNative, the law was changed AFTER Taylor was elected the first time, partly in response to his election. Mercifully, the state has also tightened up requirements - at least as far as education - for other elected officials, such as coroners.

I was home visiting my mother for mother's day this weekend and John Skipper came to our door on Saturday evening.

I voted for him in 2006 and will most likely vote for him again this time around. I sure hope we can get rid of Good Ole' Boy Crenshaw.

For "Skippy" and Whattheheck its all about the signs. Keep the peoples mind on the signs and they want know that "Skippy" has been removed from all assignments that involved leading his division without making horrible mistakes. "Skippy" could only lead record clerks and failed to maintain a computer system for reports. " Skippy" the Captain of Nothing...

And just what grade did you complete in high school there uscgang?...Just shows how desperate Crenshaw is to have 5th graders defending him on a blog that he himself says matters nothing at all to him.
You like Crenshaw

I was on topic, and I noticed you could only call it bull.. What you call bull others call the truth. It's nice to know an English Major is up at this time of night. Looking at Skippy's Bio, he could not have gotten that from an online degree.

So, back to the issues. Let's ROLL!!!

You know Whatt, as well as I do that the "charge" for tonight’s debates for Council is all about keeping as many people away as possible...

Here is what I have found as far as the debates for Sheriff

AIM/WRIX
Either Tomorrow (5-13) or Wednesday (5-14) it will be on the radio starting at 8am
This is still waiting on confirmation from Crenshaw (Skipper has already stated that he is fine with either date)

WAIM
Friday May 16th
Skipper at 830am
Crenshaw at 930am

ACRW Republican Candidates' Stump Meeting
Thursday, May 22 @ Zink's Farm, Powdersville
6:30-8:30 PM
Directions to Zink's Farm from Anderson: Take Highway 81 to Powdersville. Powdersville Fire Station is on the right and the Powdersville Water Company is on the left at the caution light. Turn left on Circle Drive and follow the signs. Bear left at the fork on Circle Drive. Enter gate on your right.

May 29th

Thanx WTH.
You're absolutely right about charging to keep us po' folks away. By the time I drive across town plunk down $15.00 ( for us all to attend) and listen again to another scripted and rehearsed reading of selected questions which do not address any real issues, then drive home around 10:30, the evening cost me $40.00 in gas & entry fees and I missed HOUSE!

And try as I may, I just can't do the WAIM moring show. Either I end up laughing so hard I veere off the highway, or I get so angry I wind up smoking a PACK of cigs on the trip to work! Lawd knows I can't afford cigarettes anymores....

I would think anyone could do common math and see why the sheriffs office needs more funds. Everyone complains and wants faster, more dependable response times but they dont want to pay for it. WIth the cost of gas constantly rising, I am sure they need an increase. Even if Skipper were to win the budget is going to have to go up. People in this town want everything for nothing.. The question you really need to be asking yourself is this....
During the Taylor administration the sheriffs dept. went over budget but the service was still poor..(Skipper was part of this administration) While Crenshaw has went over budget , atleast services have improved and there is something to show for the money. What did Taylor and his administration do with the money? It sure didnt go into new cars, overtime, or hiring more deputies? So, IS Skipper capable of managing the current budget and providing better services ? I doubt it . Look who he learned from.. Taylor was far from a great role model.
