ACTA debate - solicitor

175 people gathered at Anderson County Library to watch the political debate of the year between Solicitor Chrissy Adams and Challenger Sarah Drawdy. The debate was organized by Anderson County Taxpayers Association, chaired by Ed Jean, and moderated by Brandon Grace.

Both candidates exceeded all expectations. Fireworks were displayed in bright colors, and the issues were debated in aggressive, but brilliant, manners. On the one hand, the debate was civil. On the other hand, the accusations were brutal.

Ms. Sarah Drawdy’s views can be summarized as follows:

“If you have received a check in the mail when your Solicitor cut court time, please raise your hand. The Solicitor, the Chief Prosecutor, cannot try or plead any cases without court time. Ms. Adams promised during her last campaign to alleviate jail overcrowding, but she failed to deliver on her promise. My opponent record is screaming

My thoughts too Art. The standing ovation was not only for Drawdy, but for the debate. However, I wanted more from Drawdy to secure my vote.

Chrissy Adam's best argument rests on "more sex offenders in jail?"

That's terrible political pandering. That could just mean that there happened to be more sex offenses under her watch and she got "lucky" enough to use those sickos to pad her "tough on crime" resume. Congratulations to her assistants for all of that work, we know Chrissy didn't try any of those cases.

It doesn't speak to her skills as a solicitor at all. What skills does she personally bring to the table? I guess we'd know if she ever tried any cases.

I agree with Sarah Drawdy that we need to invest in more court time. If we could move people through the justice system quicker, we wouldn't need to upgrade our jail as soon.

Doing pretty well! I have nothing but praise & gratitude for the cardiology dept at Med Univ of SC! No heart surgery needed for now but possibly in the future. School is working well and her grades and good.

Totally on the mark there, Dune! Sarah Drawdy showed she has wit as well as legal savvy. It was very impressive.

There were TWO BIG WINNERS last night !

The first and most obvious was Sarah Drawdy. Her facts were documented, Adams' were not. She held the lead from the coin toss and never looked back. Clearly, she was prepared for her evening in court and it is obvious that she will be prepared for court when she is elected.

The second big winner was ACTA (Anderson County Taxpayers' Association). They proved last night that they are the real ACTA, the true ACTA, the legitimate ACTA.

It is clear that ACTA has evolved under its new management from a bunch of bumbling nay-sayers to a well run educational organization. In that regard ACTA can truly claim to be FOR the taxpayers of Anderson County.

ACTA has proven itself to be unbiased. Sure, there are ACTA members on both sides. There were a few CAVE folks there including Cindy's girl, Benny Sue. Even Stan Welch was there. Can't wait to hear his take on what a good group can do !

And I can't wait to hear what ACTA is planning for the next public meeting. Well done, ACTA. We won't miss the old one that shall forever be known as CAVE.

I voted for Adams last time but Sarah Drawdy will get my vote this time. GO SARAH !

A comment on another thread related to how ONLY CAVE and Toga members were present to support Ms. Drawdy.

I beg to differ sir, while I am neither. I support the candidate most likely to institute changes, to tackle the issues which have placed Anderson second from bottom in rates of convictions, and second from top in respect to free passes given to offenders and REPEAT offenders. My ovation was for the candidate whom presented better information without detracting to anothers' "lack of experience" which I found trite and petty. Ms. Drawdy DID present predominately accurate information about actual tried cases, accountability to staff and community and posed real solutions relating to illegals being freed, sex offenders being vigorously prosecuted, and felons JAILED.

To take a step further here. As some of you know, Wyatt & Angel head the Homeland Park Task Force, since Jan. 2007. In that timeframe ( 16 months) we have seen Ms. Adams attend ZERO events and community meetings held. Not for lack of invites, but lack of giving a shat. Even to show for a community event like the clean-up, done on a weekend, lended a no-show. But Two county council members, the Sheriff, leaders of several departments and candidates for several election positions DID make that step.
In that same timeframe, Ms. Drawdy has attended 4 meetings and our Pride Day event. Her purpose there was not solely for campaigning ( as I'm sure will be assumed), but to share and absorb information from the citizens in one of the troubled communities of Anderson. She listened to accounts of untried offenders, which prey on citizens time and again. She related facts and cases where the current solicitor failed to administer justice in spite of facts, witnesses and offender history.

I'm sorry, but I do not buy into the fiction that just because someone has been "doing the job" for years makes them a BETTER candidate for that job. My own "boss " has been doing his job for several decades, and he's as dumb as a box of bricks and without me couldn't find the enter key on his computer. I look at our current president, and his two-term mission has resulted in a nation of bankrupcy,deceit, misrepresentation, dispair and economic chaos. Tenure means nothing to me, but resolution to problems does, and should to you too.

The debate was really good, and the fact that the room got so hot was partly because so many people were in attendance. They tried to get the air kicked up but it is on a computer and could not be changed, ya gotta luv technology when it comes to changing something instantly. Not gonna happen. Both Sarah and Chrissy, presented their cases and while I am definitly in one's court. I think the fact that ACTA had the smarts to get them into a public forum was brilliant. Hats off to both Ed Jean and Bob Austin. Thanks to ACTA we got to learn a lot about both candidates and their views of what the job should be.

Confession - she still is tilting a bit to the left. She still is rooting for .... gasp.... Hillary.

but with age may come some wisdom! I do have hope and will keep praying. grin.

I found it very interesting that Sarah Drawdy has support from a very wide range of folks. It is not jus the so-called CAVEs, etc. There are liberals, conservatives, city folks, rural residents, all sorts. I think this wide base of support is going to be a huge help in this election and is a strong indicator that there will be a change in the solicitor's office.

I predict, if Ms. Drawdy prevails, you and Buster will be out for her hide when she correctly follows the law and does not get in the midst of the political debate in Anderson County. Preston is not going to get the puppet you think he will, either way. The law is the law and the office is the office. Sorrty Cater Lake did not get you some charges and convictions of the CAVE folks. But, again, the law is the law. Better get you some of that advil.
