Folks this political season might just be the final pass for the Rick Driver show and their frustrated political agenda. For 10 years now, on the morning airwaves in Anderson, you could hardly miss them. Just about any early morning, you can hear incessant, loud chattering across the scratchy low wattage A.M. signal. Like little chimney swifts, they fly in tight circles, chattering as they twist and dodge and dart about above the town’s political landscape. Since the 1998 election when they taunted William Floyd and Fred Tolly and wrongly predicted their demise at the hands of the dark side challengers, these WAIM chimney swifts have continued to fly in tighter and tighter circles (ever in touch with those who are out of touch). Now according to the mathematical and physical calculations of this GA Tech educated man (yours truly - GP, these ever-circling boo birds have a great probability of finally defying physics and flying right up their own a*ses this political season. Bon voyage Rick, Rodney and Charles.

Don't Miss Hate Radio's Final Pass
GPB,
Never underestimate the power of hatred and ignorance in the area. There indeed is a crowd who hangs on every word and utterance from the airwaves, and who are guided in daily activities with prompting and rebuke from same.
I expect them to remain full fledged anal-swifts for many years to come

I'm not so sure, wyatt . . .
For Ricky, it's all about the $$. He thought he could make money and grow a base of radio listeners by talking about UFOs, MIBs, federal government conspiracies, and other kook-fringe topics, pre-2000.
It didn't work.
Post-2000, it's all about LOCAL government conspiracies, and the crazy people running local government. It's a shtick that is slowly wearing thin and losing resonance in the community.
You can only be opposed to everything for so long.
Change is coming. Good change. Change for the betterment of Anderson as a whole. While I content Ricky's relevance is fading, it's not over just yet. I predict either a new format or a different tone in an effort to head off the aging-out of his listeners.

Well, one can only hope.
Hey, maybe we AIM'rs should start up our own station? Loaded with juicy tidbits and enticing entertainment, sprinkled with occasional rifts and debacles.......sounds like IMUS redux

While I would LOVE to witness hate radio's demise, I would much rather be somewhat responsible for it.
Considering that there are only a handfull of callers and that they say the same thing over and over again, it shouldn't be too hard.
Any advertiser who thinks about it, realizes that being on hate radio is the kiss of death. Many of his advertisers have figured it out and withdrawn their ads. And those who did not figure it out in time just went away. OUT OF BUSINESS !
Remember Planet Hotdogs, Phoenix Grill, Waterwheel icecream, the surplus / salvage joint on 29 north, and more ? Two locations of Waterwheel icecream went belly-up IN THE SUMMERTIME !
Many of us refuse to patronize WAIM advertisers. But that is not enough. We need to TELL THEM WHY WE ARE NOT SUPPORTING THEM .
I know of two companies that have withdrawn their ads as a direct result of my telling them, face to face. And I haven't even worked at it... yet !
On a humorous note, I refused to buy any vehicles from Planet Ford, because of their ads on hate radio. Instead, I started patronizing Fairway Ford ! Guess what ? Fairway is now Electric City Ford and they advertise on hate radio. Guess they can kiss my business goodbye ! And I really liked those folks. Sorry !
Let's all boycot the advertisers on hate radio. But, please, TELL THEM WHY WE ARE BOYCOTTING THEM. Perhaps we can THEN witness the demise of that "wonderfull" hate radio station.

Am I full of hate ? I don't think so. In fact, I didn't award the name "hate radio" to WAI'm out of material. I wish I had that much influence.
What is interesting is that the name, "hate radio" has stuck. It is almost as universally recognized as CAVE. Why ?
Well, hate radio has people like Yosemite Sam spewing hate against the administrator and the five good members of council. Funnyest thing I've heard in a long time is that he is studying to be a doctor at Tri-County Medical School !
Now if you, er I mean if Driver were a right guy he would not allow that hate on his show. And he would correct the out and out lies of callers. After all, he says he's just putting the information out there for us to decide. After a few lies, it is easy to decide.
So, perhaps when describing me, hate is not the best word. Disgust would probably be more accurate. Resentful might also work.
I resent people tearing down good people who are doing a good job for a good county. I especially resent those people costing me, and all the other taxpayers, lots of money in those "We don't know, do we?" fishing trips. The FOIA requests cost us taxpayers plenty. And what for? So Cindy might possibly, maybe, if she is really lucky, find some little bit of wrong doing to ride the administrator about ?
Thankfully, the first responders have her number, in spite of WAI'm' out of material's ill-fated damage control. I too hope that WAIM will go "poof". And if it does, it will take Crow, sanders, Cindy and Harvell with it.

In America, it is well and proper that the village idiot has his or her say. Also, note how much the South Carolina tourism industry has suffered under the NAACP boycott. (Irony, people.)
I, as many rational people do, take pause when I hear people call for those who disagree, be it a state government or a radio station, to lose their livelihoods over their opinions. There is something just a bit wrong with the notion of destroying people's jobs and economic lives over their political opinions.
That said, hell, I have to go out to my truck to even get the station in question to pick up in Honea Path. My high priced home stereo system and my clock radio can not even pick up the station in question.
I listen to Pork Chop or John Boy and Billy. So forgive me, I don't even know what businesses to boycott. And,I as as Bill noted in his Shih postings, am in the heart of Cindy Wilson's district.

So ... the Civil Rights Movement was just a "political opinion" and the Montgomery Bus Boycots forced people to "lose their livelihoods over their opinions?"
. . . by your logic, that is.

How is a radio station with a weak signal infringing upon your civil liberties? You are comparing apples to oranges here.
But, using your logic, what if, the majority of white people in Alabama chose to boycott the local black man who was plowing their garden or shining their shoes because they, as most were at the time, opposed to Civil Rights?
You miss the key difference. What we have here in Anderson is not some minority trying to gain a foothold, but a majority trying to silence a rather insignificant minority.
I won't even get into the notion that comparing the plight of the Prestonistas to civil rights is absurd. I doubt Rosa Parks had either you or Joey in mind when she sat down in the bus seat.

I usually agree with you on most items. But there is a difference between opinion and out and out assault. That's my opinion.
If I like Italian food and you do not, we differ in opinion.
But if I seek to bring harm to you because we disagree, that is different.
WAIM openly seeks to get rid of the administrator (it would affect his livelihood.) That is NOT just a difference of opinion.
WAIM is closely tied to Cindy Wilson and the CAVE folks. As a group, they seek to halt the progress that this county has made in the last ten or twelve years. There have been unfounded accusations made, people followed, late nite phone calls, obscene letters, and thinly veiled threats made on the radio and in council meetings. That's NOT just a difference of opinion.
They have come out AGAINST almost everything that might possibly attract new industry to Anderson County. And that could adversely affect your kids' livelihood. That's NOT just a difference of opinion.
Any company that advertises on WAIM helps them adversely affect your kids' livelihood. And that's NOT just a difference of opinion.
And, don't forget that Driver advocated the ill-fated boycot against the Independent-Mail. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
So, getting rid of WAIM would hurt maybe 3 or 4 people. This is much better than allowing WAIM to hurt 180,000 people. And that IS my opinion !

I was unaware of Driver's boycott of the paper. It appears it was as successful as the NAACP's boycott of South Carolina tourism. Both of their boycotts were as useful as tits on a boar.
As I stated, if people in Honea Path can't get the station to come in clearly, how in the hell can people wanting to invest in Anderson get their remarks. They do not even have a strong website.
On so many issues, Preston and his folks are right. But, the battle with Wilson and her folks has created a situation in which battles that ought to just be avoided are fought out of pride.
I do think there are some real creeps in the so called CAVE movement. I think following around someone to try get them in a "gotcha" situation is downright sick.
However, I also think, spending one ounce of energy to debate and/or destroy the village idiots is a waste of time, and that waste of time hurts the community just as much as the idiots do. It is also how Wilson got re-elected a couple of times.
If Preston and the council members who support his point of view and others just let the Wilson crowd hang themselves and then move on, this thing would have been over years ago. Wilson and her crowd did have a huge political nugget with the credit card issue, but they did not know they did. So, don't fret, they don't appear to have the sense to know when they do have something and the don't have the sense to use it the right way. (Uh, for those of you in Williamston, it is called timing. )
BTW, I love Italian food. I can not eat it as I once did due to a strict diet I am on, but we can agree that Italian food is great. It causes me to save up my carbs and sugars all day sometimes to have a slice of pizza or some linguine and clam.
To knowingly disseminate lies and fabricate situations that never happened is way more than "expressing an opinion".....

Political discourse has always been full of such. We all consider George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln as great statesmen, I assume. In their time their were pamphlets calling each a "toothless fool," "a French puppet," and a "baboon," respectively. Obviously those charges are not true. But, ah, free speech, it is what it is.
Sometimes what is readily dismissed as a lie turs out to be true. In 1972 the Edgefield paper, in 72 point font said about Strom Thurmond: "Colored Offspring."
The publisher ended up selling the paper over the furor of the story and the headline. He was an object of ridicule. Then, some thirty or so years later, Bessie Mae Washington's name was added to the Thurmond monument as one of his children.
That's why we allow the leeway in political discourse. Every now and then, the one we call a nut is right.

I think I'll just boycott Buster's post. He can't seem to make a post on any subject unless he mentions the "CAVE people" or "Hate Radio" at least once, no matter what the subject. Someone with that big of an obsession really brings nothing to the discussion when they try to turn attention to the same old tired claims!

Seems to me that the title of this thread is "Don't miss hate radio's final pass", isn't it ?
And I didn't start it, did I ?
So for me to address that subject ( the subject of this thread) is worthy of being boycotted ? I love it.
Next week we'll get on an organized boycott !
If you want to boycott something, might I suggest a few of the advertisers on hate radio ?

so how bout list them...
