I got a poser for the bloggers.
How much fraud does it take for someone to care about it?
Let say, "hypothetically", that you knew of someone who was such a blatant abuser of the system that it literally sickened you.
Lets say this person has, for over five years, defrauded the government by:
1) Faking a disability to get Social Security benefits, but is in perfect health.
2) Faked an injury to sue a major global corporation for low 5-figure settlement, even though the corporation knew of his disgression and video showed it to be a fake slip & fall.
3) Commits fraud of the state by claiming food stamps and aid to the tune of over $1,000. a month for the past few years due to "disability".
4) works full-time ( currently, even as he draws SSI and State welfare benefits) under a false i.d and name and fails to pay ANY federal & state taxes
5) Has avoided paying required child support by claiming his unemployment and disability status to the courts.
6) has been filmed & documented by a private investigator ( whom may have been paid by yourself to corroberate your claims) at this individual's place of work, and whom has presented this documentation to a court judge to prove his claims false, only to have those documents and claims laid aside and ignored.

Now lets say you tried to do the following:
a) Notifications made to Social Security office about this person's fraudulant activities, which have gone unheeded and ignored, and they still collect checks every month uninterrupted.
b) Notifications made to Anderson DSS office about same went ignored, and they still get stamps and aid of over $1,000. a month
c) Notifications to state attorney regarding fraudulant
activities and receipts of government monies/false statements made to avoid detection have also been ignored
d) IRS notifications regarding false work i.d and failure to pay taxes has also been ignored.
e) The solicitor and Sheriff cannot do anything because nobody will be the lead prosecutor.
f) the Governor's office refuses to assist but asks for you to NOT notify the press due to bad publicity.

So........wadda you think?

Been there, done that ( Dianne Derby @wspa) Too commonplace and not enough "oomph" for good ratings.

After much prodding, we were contacted by the State Attorney General's office and relayed the specifics we knew about, and they indicated this excess was so severe, had fallen between so many cracks and been overlooked by so many, it falls under Federal crimes.
Nice to know that you, as John Q. Taxpayer, can finance fraud for 1/2 a decade without recourse or prosecution until someone pushed the cart over the cliff! The total amounts come to a low 6-figure loss to the community over the past 7 years BTW...

Yeah, my confidence in the legal system to mete out justice is equalled only by my confidence in our President to save this country from The Greater Depression of 2009.
