Anyone running for council or even participating politically has no choice but to suffer character assassination unless they bow to the hate CAVE crowd, CW, Stan Welch and Rick Driver.

Who wants to suffer that? It takes a very strong person to survive what I have been put through. Don't know many that can handle it, eg. secret pen names to hide behind. The second someone finds out who you are the character assassination begins with lies, personal attacks, professional attacks, and so on.

You got it half right. That crowd does do their deeds. But, so does the Joey crowd. Heck even daring to NOT run has its consequences.

There is a such a tunnel vision in Anderson County local politics that it poisons the process. As SSHM pointed out, you have to choose one side or the other. The problem is neither side cares much about the people of the county, who are by far hardworking, decent and law abiding. You can not find better people than those in Anderson County. But, you just won't find many of them in county politics. The good people are just too decent to lower themselves to the mud fight.

Hopefully, that will change one day. But, for now, we get the War of the Roses brought to Anderson County politics.

Of course we who read Andrew's posts understand he leans toward the status quo. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results but that is Anderson in a nut shell.

- Greene

Greene, thats a crude way to put it.

More accurately, I don't lean toward the status quo. I'd love to replace every single council member. Just not with Cindy Wilson clones.

It pains me to say this as a Democrat, but the only one worth keeping in my view is Ron Wilson. Too bad no viable alternatives have stepped forth.

Ron Wilson has surprised me with his reasonable approach. I might disagree with him strongly. A dig or two at him is always fun, because he is a worthy opponent. But, the man has learned the dignity of the office and how to uphold it.

Ironically, I would say Ron Wilson and Gracie Floyd, (can you think of any more different histories prior to council), think for themselves more than the others.

I never thought I would ever think this, but best wishes to Ron Wilson upon re-election against Rick Freemantle. As Dusty Rhodes said about the recently retiring Ric Flair, " even if you are lined up a against the man, you got to respect the man who is so damn good at what he does. You hate to see him go. "

ahammett - “Mike Gambrell did have strong ties to that community, but I'm not entirely certain that had anything to do with his wins. More likely he won the General because of the R beside his name, and he won the primary because Dan Harvell was rightly seen as a snake oil salesman.”

Disagree with you here, Andrew. Dan is not disliked around here – he has lived here long time and is a friendly person, just very strong in his views (many of which I disagree with). But your assessment of Mike Gambrell is totally off – Mike is well-liked in his own right and respected. His ties to the community had everything to do with his win. He has worked in this area and given back to it in both time and effort. He is very secure in that seat, in my opinion.

And Coke – regarding your comment about Rick Freemantle vs. Ron Wilson, remember the old adage “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Ron has turned out to be a strong and reasonable council member who is willing to have an open mind and assess situations based upon facts.

It's nice that Nick allows all you county employees to have your own blog. Have your fun while you can. See you at the poles with 5 new council people replacing your 5 bobble-head darlings.

Not likely, Bubba. While you're at the strip club, we'll be voting.

I don't understand how some posters can make such bold pronouncements and predictions about District 5 when they "have no clue who Tommy Dunn is", post "Brother" Bailey who is that?", or "Who is Tommy Dunn?"?

Can you explain the basis for your posts? How can you predict the outcome when you don't know the players?

Can someone tell me how Mr. Bailey earned being called "some scummy car dealer”?

- NomadRon

Brothers Baily is an honorable businessman and devoted father. He serves his community with honesty in his business practices and devotion to his family. He is a member of New Spring Church and is actively involved in his community.

I can assure you that he is running because he has an honest desire to serve his community. I do not know his platform and am as interested as all of you to hear, he is very interested in economic development and positive growth in our community.
