On this website, I eagerly endorsed Bill McAbee for re-election and attacked his opponent. As Grandpa says, when you think you might be wrong, admit it.
Well, I might be. I now don't know what to make of McAbee. While, on paper he's the right guy for the job, one can to get over his economic development board pick and her various signs of poor judgment, which reflect back upon him.
I just find it hard to believe that any council member would appoint someone that is: not in his district, who shows a profound lack of judgment, who seems to be more in it for herself, (i,e. perks such as classes paid for, meals, hotels, etc.), and who alienates politically every old supporter McAbee had.
It is downright confounding that McAbee stands by someone who is, on the surface, such a political liability.
Anyone have any ideas why McAbee puts up with this appointee? What the Hell is McAbee doing?

Questioning my McAbee pick

Did you hear about how we went to the moon a few years ago? Interesting what the news can tell you. LOL. But, of course, if you don't back Joey, the moon thing was just part of Cindy's imagination. Ask Const., she will tell you.

Coke,
Three strikes, and you're out.
A number of us have given you more than a pass on some of your comments as you do provided, from time to time, interesting and informative information. However, in some of your more recent posts, you have been proven wrong by verifiable and credible sources. In Texas, I suppose we would call this "getting it from the horses mouth."
I want facts, Coke.
Provide the facts associated with the quoted passage from your original post above. Provide information that can be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, as your credibility has been questioned and proven to be less than factual on several previous occasions.
Sam Houston put it best when he said:
“Remember that whatever may be said by a lady or her friends, it is not part of conduct of a gallant or generous man to take up arms against a woman.”
You seem to be willing to take up arms in the form of words against a woman. For someone from Texas and who frequently extols pride in Texas, you certain don't hold to the virtues of the first president of your state.
Or maybe you're not from Texas . . .

Sorry, mam, but everything quoted is a fact. And, as the late Governor Ann Richards said,"when a woman gets in politics, she better not count on manners."
That said, there is nothing rude as to what I stated, just facts. Chamber of commerce classes, etc. That the appointee does not live in the district is clear.
I have refrained myself from the more personal, because I have manners. I can do otherwise. You have no idea how much I don't make known on here.
As for what you put up with, well, who really cares what you think? While I enjoy your witty posts, I don't remember anyone naming you the gatekeeper of comments and opinion.
This podunk county, with its Boss Hogg administrator and his nut job opposition is a prime example of what is wrong with local government today. The appointee just makes that even more clear. Who in the world would appoint someone out of his district who acts so imprudently time and time again?
I thought your time working for the state senate would have taught you that politics is a contact sport. You can't bash others and run down their names without someone callin' you on it.

No ... I don't see facts there. Can you spell it out, please? All I see, both in your original post and in your, ahem, lame follow-up is more opinion. If you are writing an opinion piece, just say it. It's really that simple.

The only thing I ever ask for, and the community at large will agree, is facts. I ask, no, demand facts, especially when people levy broad and unverifiable claims against an individual or a group of individuals. It's a simple and reasonable standard to hold people to, including yourself, "Mr. Texas."

We're all wating . . . please enlighten us.

You got me, SSHM. Cindy Wilson and her folks are paying me so much money I can bathe in it. I just had a twenty dollar bill shower. And, what is really crucial, is they are coming to get your job!
You are not as smart as I thought. Don't get the notion I don't care for either side, or is your view so clouded in CYA that you see me as a threat when really all I do is call 'em like I see "em?
Come, even Boss Joey can not be comfortable with constituent.

Remind me to never hire you as a lawyer. You can't even flow an argument correctly.
You've dropped my points on providing factual evidence about your claims. I challenged - you failed to respond or provide even a SHRED of evidence to support your wild claims.
You have what appears to be a personal vendetta against someone. All I'm asking for is facts to support your claims and reasoning behind this vendetta - and you CAN'T EVEN DO THAT.
You have all but outted yourself at this point. But please, for the benefit of the readers here, do go on. Before you do, let me remind you of something ... something I've reminded you, err, another poster of before:
Indifference and neutrality works in Columbia. It does not work here.

Okay, where does Amy Plummer live? It is not in McAbee's district. She has never lived in it. You show me the facts otherwise.
Constituent is clearly Ms. Plummer. All you have to do is read the autobiographical posts of hers. Then, look at the poor judgment this county official shows time and time again going off half cocked against whomever. Is that what you want or expect from someone on one of the most important boards in the county? You want your economic future in those hands?
Shall I go on, or is stupid hurting you a bit too much this morning? If not, I'll be your huckleberry.
I sense one of "granddaddy's" platitudes coming.

OK, I will bite this time. Grandpa told me, "There is no such thing as a golden hearted whore." That is is not to mean it applies to anyone here. You asked for one of grandpa's sayings, and I gave one.
Another one is " There are two things a man can count on. One is death. The other is some politician telling him it's just damn necessary to take more of his money."
I'll counter you with a platitude from my friend and old drinkin' buddy from Georgia, the late Lewis Grizzard, who once said, "You can't bullsh*t a bullsh*tter."
He was absolutely right on that one, Coke. You don't impress me much.
Your move.

Again, all I see are opinions, no facts. Do you have facts? Or are going to drop back, punt, and declare your original diatribe and subsequent comments as an op-ed piece?

Oh please, by all means, continue. It's apparently story time, so I'm all ears for a story (as you have no facts thus far).

Some men are so angry they don't recognize a friend if the friend bit him on the ass. Get over the Ron Wilson thing. You and I are on the same page more than you know.

Creepy? I thought council members were supposed to appoint people that lived in their districts. When is calling them on not doing so creepy? That is pure SSHM bull manure. It's creepy to have a personal police force, but I digress.
If you see no facts, you can not read. Come on, dude, even Joey is uncomfortable with the stuff Constituent spews out on this blog.
I am disappointed. I thought you were better than this. I feel cheated. I wanted a fair fight. I feel like I have to tie half my brain up or something for that. I thought you were the man.
I misjudged. I thought I was picking a fight with one of Preston's best. Guess not. You make me feel like a man who brought a gun to a knife fight. There's just no glory in taking you down, it's too easy.
I know you don't have the facts on your side, but you can not even pound the table well. I guess, after all, the great SSHM, like his hero, is all hat and no cattle.
Don't want to interfere with your concentration in the chess match with SSHM, Coke - especially since you've already castled once, your queen is exposed and you need to be playing for a draw or a stalemete - but for the record, on a lot of these appointments, there really is no requirement that a member of Council apppoint someone who lives in his district.
Some of them, yes, that is the idea. On the Economic Development Board, though, I believe it's set up so that Councilmen make appointments based the area of expertise of those being appointed, regardless of which district they live in
Personally, I think a Council member would be remiss in his or her duties to represent all of the taxpayers of the county if he slavishly insisted on appointing someone from his own district to a position that requires some specific knowledge while ignoring a more qualified person who might live in another district.
And that's not intended to start a debate on relative qualifications of various individuals, Coke. That's just one of those annoying facts that occasionally come up in political discussions.
And, yes, Coke, we may agree on more than we disagree on. But what your "grandfather" thought in 1948 right before he got his ass kicked at the polls by Lyndon Johnson in that Texas Congressional race really isn't relevant to anything that's going on today, now, is it?

Fair enough, JD. Do you think the appointment made by Mr. Mcabee to the ED board is solid? Does his appointee show the wisdom and judgment a member should?
Well, I wouldn't comment on that, Coke, other than to note that the voters of Anderson County keep ELECTING people to County Council who have far less judgment and knowledge of economic development issues than that particular appointee has.

As a side note, LBJ did not kick grandpa's ass. He stole the election. It was bought and paid for. On election night, the old man won, then after Jim Parr and his cronies got involved, the crook LBJ was ahead, after the cemetery vote was counted. Just look what that started.

Wow. That is a mighty low standard you are applying to the council members.
