A deafening silence would pervade the local political scene if all candidates were forced to run on their own laurels without defaming somebody else's reputation. If the vileness and incivility of comments on this blog are an indicator of the state of local politics in Anderson (and I suspect they are), we are one sick community. Perhaps we should quarantine the county and call in a team of renowned sociologists and counseling professionals to do some mass therapy and try to relieve us from the oppressive culture of distrust that sucks the joy from our lives.

George,

I'm putting on my tin-foil hat in protest.

If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at, eh?

GeorgePBurdell,

We do have a few individuals in the community and on this Forum who seem to be in serious need of psychiatric treatment, and possibly admission to a “nut” house. Unfortunately, these individuals have a way of hijacking forum threads, public hearings, and radio air waves. By declaring themselves taxpayers, rather than just nuts, they believe they have the right to attack local government officials and smear their personal reputation. However, I am thankful to the majority of public servants who have the political and personal courage to continue their commitment to what appears to be thankless job.

Friedgreenmater,

‘Kumbaya’ is Gullah talk meaning ‘come by here’.

So your sentence read , “come by here Kaldas speaks again !”

Just exactly what are you trying to say ?

Yes Pappy, you are correct with the meaning of 'Kumbaya'.

I was taught in the various groups at which I sang this song in my youth that it meant come together, peace etc.

Seems like that is what Art tries to encourage.

Then 'twould seem that my use of the word was entirely correct, and not Pappy's definition of come by here.Like I said, Pappy, I don't need any help on Gullah.

I'll take your word for it, Fried. I lived in Charleston for two and a half years, and I STILL have trouble understand those darned geechies.

(Goodness, I hope that isn't politically incorrect. I didn't even know that word until I moved there.)

Dearest Stan,

I believe that Pappy is indeed correct. Allow me to provide sources to support his correct translation:

What does Kumbaya mean?

or

Kumbaya and it's origin.

or

The straight dope on kumbaya

or finally . . .

Wikipedia, with multiple sources to support the entry on the subject of kumbaya

It "seems to me" that Pappy and the net are in concert on their opinion. Do you have sources to support an alternative translation? A "Hooked on Gullah" book, maybe?

Last time I checked, the constitution of these United States had not been completely abolished or edited for content. I recall that silly thing called free speech was still not appended by GWB's terrorist agenda.

So let the masses of CAVE-dwellers ( I think a grand total of ten frequent callers) spout their fears to the witless listeners ( lilely the same ten) of the Rickey show.
Let those airheads think Joey P. is boffing so&so; in Cater Lake, at least he's getting some! Thats likely the problem, THEY ain't getting some...
Let those who think Council cannot resolve the real issues step forward and allow THEIR skeletons out of the closets for the media and public to crucify on blogs and anonymous weblinks.
As Rhett Butler said, "Frankly I don't give a damn!"
